I'll make this review short.
Don't go.
Hopefully they will be out of business in a few months so someone like Senor Tequilas can take over.
South of the Border has been in business for like 5 years. They just moved to this location.

really, well they must be using the same sour cream they out started with.....it was rancid. and nothing is more unnatural than seeing guacamole come out in the shape of a scoop of ice cream.
It is a shame Compadres didn't move in across the street from them, they'd be gone overnight.
I think you just like to *****.
My wife and I have eaten there twice since it opened and both times the food has been above average and the service has been excellent.
I hear there is a nice little mural on one wall. So cant be all bad. [:P]

If that doesn't happen soon are you going to hold a protest and demand that they pay to gate your neighborhood?[:D]
Hey, they said its a famous painting depicting a well known mythology about the volcanoe there by Mexico City.
Couldnt find another pic of it on the web that was more detailed or had the right colors, so used this tiny one they gave me to try and make a wall sized mural from. Had intended for them to just wrap the canvas around a wooden frame and perhaps paint the edge black, not put a wooden frame around it. Also mentioned that the wall behind it should be a deep rich red, not more brown. I painted a bit of a stone archway around the painting on either side to make it larger on the wall since my canvas was only so wide. So as they have it now, its brown on brown on brown. That frame definitely needs to be black and the wall behind, red. Perhaps if I get the time I will go and do it myself. It needs it to make the painting "pop".

This is how I would have liked for them to have done it on the wall. Not a brown frame on a brown wall, the whole thing just falls flat like that.

Damn, inteller, do you ever have a positive thing to say about ANYTHING? All your b*tching and moaning is getting quite tiresome.
It's interesting that pretty much everywhere you go to eat you get poor service and bad food. You get what you give, man. You get what you give...
the problem is Aztecs and bad Mexican food don't mix. At first glance it looks like they are burning peyote to get over their indigestion.

no, i don't comment on the good places, just warn people about the bad places. i eat at a LOT of good places.
Well, my wife and I have eaten there several times, and always liked it, especially the lunch menu. Service always very friendly.
Haven't got around to checking the Tulsa World's link for the health dept inspections yet. Almost afraid to, that thing is scary.
Wife says their spinach enchiladas are fantastic. Will have to take her word on that. The do have good tamales, which are hard to find.
I likeD south of the border and used to eat their regularly. We had a decent sized group that ate their once a week. Instead of any discounts or freebies we got occasional mediocre service and started getting overcharged regularly. At one point they even charged above menu prices and just said "the prices changed."
I like the owners and their food was okay but when you run off regular clientele, there is a problem.
So I don't hate the place, just probably not going back anymore. I hadn't posted a review because they weren't the best or the worst.
Inteller, any idea what happened to the compadre's deal? Any why in the world would you want Senor Tequila's? You can get Old El Paso at WalMart without waiting in the long lines and dealing with the non-existant service.

Scott, you obviously haven't been to Wal-Mart lately, then....

obviously we are not talking about the same Senor Tequila. The one off 51st st sucks and I can't speak for the one on Peoria.
I also visited El Tequila a while back and found it to be acceptable. Better than Agave, which they happen to own. Agave is aweful....don't go.
I'm close to recommending a don't go for Mexico Lindo. The last few times have been borderline. Ever since HB1804 passed the wait staff has a pissed off look on their face and food is mediocre. I think the old cook had to make a run for it.
I like Riobertos at 11th and Garnett. I especially like the 24 hour drive through.
For dine in we go to Speedy's at 22nd and Sheridan.
For drinks and dinner, we go to El Guapo's.
I can't wait for Casa Laredo to reopen in the downtown Adams Hotel building

Restaurant Inspections (//%22http://www.tulsa-health.org/food-safety/restaurant-inspections/%22)
We encourage you to read the following so you will be better informed about the inspection process.
As a service to the public, restaurant inspections are provided on this site as an opportunity to share information which may assist the consumer in being well-informed as to conditions observed on the day of inspection.
Keep in mind that these inspections are only a "snapshot in time" and reflect the conditions observed on that particular day. On any given day, these conditions can go from good to bad or bad to good within a matter of a few minutes.
Inspections are conducted based on several criteria. Each facility is given a priority rating, which determines the frequency of routine inspections. Follow-up inspections are done within 2 weeks if the previous inspection failed.
Inspection violations are placed into three categories: super critical, critical and non-critical The information contained on this website provides the general violation and then descriptions of common violations that may be observed.
Enforcement actions taken at the facility are also indicated on the site.
We provide inspection results over a period of time which better reflects the overall status of the facility. Inspections are given in chronological order with the most recent inspection first. The data is updated once a month so it is suggested that you return to the site to view any updates.
Types of Inspections (//%22http://www.tulsa-health.org/food-safety/restaurant-inspections/types-of-inspections/%22)

Citizen Complaint Form (//%22http://www.tulsa-health.org/food-safety/citizen-complaints/%22)
The above information is important to read if you'll be using THD inspection reports to judge a restaurant. It is very important to keep the italicized statement above in mind. The THD maintains these inspections online as a public service and inspections can also be seen in person at the THD's Consumer Protection Division at

So wait, you want a Senor Tequila to move in based on the fact you find one of their three location to be good?
I've only been in the 71st location twice. One trip was okay (other than my then-pregnant wife suddenly developing a mid-meal aversion to mexican food) and the other time we couldn't get waited on because the waiters and cooks were all huddled around the bar watching soccer. We timed it. Our waiter was 20 minutes between visits.
The best part about the new South of the Border is that it is right next to Coppertown... mmm... South of the Border Mocha. :D

well how many times did he visit? we are usually in and out of there in 30 minutes. it is a place to eat, not lounge.

Ate at South of the Border for first time last night. Great food, great service, in and out in 30 minutes.
Got the chicken quesadillas and went at 5:30pm

OK..i am glad someone mentioned the Senior Tequilas on 51st. I went in there once, and ordered a salad. The cheese was MOLDY. I am normally very tolerate of the language barrier, but I couldn't not make my waiter understand that I was unhappy with furry cheese. Never will I go there again.
I do like the Mexico Lindo in Owasso. La Mansion on 41st & 169 is ok. What about Mexicali Border Cafe..I have never hada problem there.

never been to the mexicali at 71st/mem. I only went to the one downtown because it was the only mexican there, until El guapos....but sadly neither place is really better than the other...el guapo edges them out on ambiance only slightly. Really, when I go into Mexicali I think of Spaghetti Warehouse....only mexican food.

I was thinking the same thing reading this thread. I would always get Edith's Special burrito and a giant plate of rice.
I never go to a "chainy" restaurant...I always head to easy tulsa for the real deal!(where they dont even understand me when I am ordering..its the best!)
