In the development at 121st & Memorial.
Is this a done deal or is it like the Target was? Close and then....nothing.
Considering the financial position that Home Depot finds itself in, closing stores like crazy , I will believe this rumor when I see it happening. From Forbes, (//%22http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2008/12/31/ap5872353.html%22) -
quote:
2008 profits skidding 38 percent at Atlanta-based Home Depot and 15 percent at Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe's through the first three quarters of 2008.

But store closings also mounted and expansion plans were curtailed as the retailers strove to cut costs.
The economy has really slowed expansion down at these stores.
Just what I wanted. Even more traffic on Memorial. I think the customers at Lowes (111th & Memorial) are from all over, not just Bixby. A H.D. at 121st will also draw from areas south of 81st and probably east of Yale or Harvard.

I'm about 0.6mi from 111th Lowes. I avoid 71st whenever possible. I got to the Home Depot at 91st & Delaware before going to 71st St.
Where did you hear about Home Depot in Bixby?

I got to the 71st Lowes and Home Depot but I use the back road off Mingo.

I've done that too. The trip across the turnpike then up Delaware is still easier. If Lowes weren't so close, I would be tempted to go to 71st just to have the choice between Lowes & H.D. in one trip.

Someone in my wife's family who is "connected" with people in the know in Bixby.

well that doesn't have to go very far. everyone in bixby is related to each other [:P]
Not True! [:)] At least not north of the river. We moved here from out of state in the early 70s.
Inteller, Where are we on this announcement? Have you heard any more?
I was told it had been "delayed" until this summer.
Which to me means it will never happen.
I found it to be odd that they would be adding a store in these tough economic times.
We will see if they decide to go with it in the future.
Isn't there a Sutherland's south of the River? A Home Depot will probably put them under.

There is, but it is a horrible store. Most of the time they don't have what you are looking for. If they do have what you need it is always significantly higher than Lowe's or Home Depot.
What is under construction next to Jiffy Lube in that same development? Can't tell yet if it's a restaurant, bank or other?

Another bank.....IBC I believe.
The Home Depot has been canceled? Did the economy sink the project?

yeah thats a pretty good guess. i think another problem is the land owners in bixby think their land is worth more than it is.
I think Sod farming is a good use for that land around 121st. It doesn't matter quite so much when it gets wet. I seem to remember a few islands of dryness there in the late 80s. (I can never remember if it was 86 or 88.) There has been a lot of work to keep the place dry during normal floods but....that place will get wet again sometime.

Nah, can't be that. I mean the guy that owns the 4 acres on the NE corner of Memorial & 161st only wants $850,000 for it.
;)

It's worth what someone will pay for it. Can't blame the guy for trying. Everyone wants their property value to go up, why should this guy be different?
I'd like to see a Mennards Home center open up in Tulsa. Those stores run circles around Home Depot & Lowes, they are bigger and offer more items and they sell them at a lower price. Their Christmas & Halloween/Seasonal section is huge, and they have a jumbo lumber center, far bigger than other stores and they have lower prices.
