Title: Wood Floor Repair
Post by: jne on June 08, 2009, 01:18:35 pm
OK, so I just put a really good gouge across the grain in my nice wood floor.  I was moving a big piece of furniture for the Cox cable contractor, again (whole other story).  I'm thinking surely this is a pretty simple repair for someone who knows what they are doing.  I could try to putty it and match it up and draw grain on it, but I'm sure it will still look like crap.  Any recommendations for a wood floor guy?  This isn't going to be THAT expensive is it?

I thought this was a good article for you to read:  http://www.diylife.com/2007/07/09/diy-fix-scratches-and-squeaks-in-your-hardwood-flooring/

I recommend calling the place that installed the wood floor if you know who it was and get a quote.  It probably is not as much as you would think.  I also recommend using those soft pads on the bottom of all your furniture.

Yeah, I had sliders under the furniture, something was caught in it.  The floors are original (1954).

UPDATE:  I filled it in with a little wood putty and colored it with a touch up pen and some crayons.  It kinda looks like crap, but it is no longer the focal point of my living room.  Hopefully a little polyurethane will help shine it up a bit and help it blend a little more.
