Post by: sgrizzle on June 28, 2009, 06:24:07 PM
It's a Joe Momma's Downtown (112 S Elgin)

Come meet others passionate about Tulsa... or just enjoy the beer and appetizer specials. Either way, just head to Joe Momma's after work on Wednesday!

I think I may actually be able to make this one since I don't have to work late this Wednesday.  I know they have Marshall's, but I've been jonesin' to try the OPP (get your minds out of the gutters people, that stands for Old Pavilion Pilsner).  Does anyone know if they carry it there?  I'm sure you would Scott, as often as you've been there now.

They had to put any high point beer on hiatus for a bit.  Not sure if they got the issues straightened out.  Joe Momma can you fill us in?

Cherish, I think we are going to be having the Tulsa Deco museum meetings 2nd week of the month, at least that's the last we talked about at the first meeting.

Sounds like a liquor licensing issue.  I hate the arcane Oklahoma laws regarding high-point beer.

They need to get out of the fifties with that crap.

High point beer like as in the beer has a high percentage of alcohol?  So hows the liquor issue, I'm a liquor drinker (thats when I drink alcohol) not so much a beer drinker unless it's Labatt.

Sidenote but I used to bartend and anyone know the rules of bartending in Tulsa, I went to bartending school like in 03 so I'm a Mixologist (LOL).  Do you have to be licensed or something, cause I got my cert from a school in Maryland.  I may look into getting a job as a bartender while in school...well got to find out first from the school I'll be attending if that's ok according to there policy  :-\

You don't need the certificate to Bartend, but it would be good to mention at interviews. If you're going to ORU, I believe their rules have become a lot more lax in recent years.

Oklahoma Liquor Laws
Alcohol 3.2% alcohol and below (Beer and Wine Coolers) - Can be sold in grocery stores, convenience stores and restaurants under a beer license.
Alcohol 3.3% and above ("High Point Beer" and Liquor) - Can be sold in liquor stores and bars with a liquor license. More rules, more paperwork.

Most people around here call low-point beer "3.2 Beer" even though in most cases the alcohol content in usually around 2.5%.

Apparently there are some "gotchas" that can slow the approval process. They have their beer license and the last time I asked I was tld they should have their liquor license "any day now"

Sorry guys, riding 25 miles out into the Osage hills.  Burning off some calories so I can drink more Marshall's and eat more BBQ.

Planned on making it, but had a problem come up that I had to deal with at the bank.

To be a bartender here, you need a liquor license, which is $75 dollars, and a food handlers permit, $15 I think, so that you can handle the ice for the drinks.
