Anyone else head out to the Scottish festival this year? I ran the 5K they had in conjunction with it on Saturday with friends then we figured we'd hang out for dinner and a few beers. I hate to say it, but we were pretty underwhelmed. $19 a pitcher for beer and limited food choices ran us off fairly quickly.
Maybe it's expecting too much out of any other festival which takes place on the hallowed ground of Oktoberfest, but I really don't see much exciting or compelling about it.
I hate to snipe on a local event like this but I hope the organizers will keep up with community forums and make adjustments to make their events better.
Anyone else have better impressions of it?
I drove by, but didn't stop. I've been to them before out at chandler, and I don't remember much of a choice in drinks or foods there either. I beleive that the Scottish Festivals are more about the culture then the food (I know, food is a part of culture but seperating them in this context). I mean, come on, were else are you going to find men, wearing dresses, throwing telephone poles end over end?
My only complaint was that they let the Irish in to get attendance up..

I went there ate some food, watched some of the dancing and highland games. It was interesting but the novelty quickly wore off. I would've been a little more disgruntled if I had actually paid the $5 entry fee.
The lack of thought given to those arriving by bike irked me more than anything. I attempted to ride down the rivertrail from the 11th street bridge. There were five guys sitting there watching a fence. They should make that an entrance. They already had enough people sitting there doing nothing.
So we rode through the apartment complex and down Jackson to the main entrance before being somewhat rudely told we can't ride from Jackson Street up to the gate. So we walked, as cars and golf carts drove by. Makes no freaking sense that you can ride a bike where they allow cars to drive.
If we're gonna become a respectable urban area, we have to accomodate more than just automobile owners. I know multiple MLB parks have bicycle parking. How about some of that at ONEOK Field and some of our larger events like Oktoberfest?

Had a beer...I found out I don't like scottish stout.
Watched a dance (was a little creeped about it).
Watched a wedding (again, was a little creeped about it).

Event personnel.
I didn't expect to ride around the actual festival, but to be barked at like an 8-year-old to walk my bike through a parking lot leading to the actual festival entry gate is a bit ridiculous, especially as cars and golf carts drove past.

Saw the article about it in the TW, Scottish "Pride"...did you see the freaks in the costumes and skirts? Why do they always show the ones who stand out like that and not the rest, the majority, of the normal people that are there? How can those people live like that?
