Title: When did Cox drop their Starter Internet from 1.5meg to 1.0meg?
Post by: Mike 01Hawk on June 11, 2010, 02:29:04 PM
Grrrrrr

I was gonna go to the Starter Internet package ($23 a month) after our promotional 12meg expired.... dunno about that now.

You guys still think 1meg down would be good enough for YT streaming (standard and HD)?

No. It would be enough for YouTube's '360p' streaming, which seems to be around 600Kbps. 480p looks to be around 1.2 or 1.3Mbps. 720p is a little over 2Mbps, while 1080p is 3.5Mbps.

I'm a tard, I thought 1 Mbps = 1 Megbyte a second.   It's actually a theoretical max of 125KB/s  :'(  I always get the bit and byte mixed up.  I'm seeing ~100KB/s DL speeds.

So yeah, standard YT streaming is okay, I have to wait for anything else.  The starter package really isn't THAT bad though.  Forum and web browsing is unaffected.  It just sucks when you wanna download anything bigger than say 10meg.
