Title: Jenks woman gets high and crashes her BMW into house burning it down
Post by: swake on September 03, 2012, 09:24:00 PM
This is freaky, it happened just a couple of blocks from my house this afternoon. A friend of mine lives right across the street. The woman who did it lives just a couple of blocks over and apparently has had a few run in with the police recently.

Police say Jenks woman high on aerosol crashes into home and sparks fire
Quote
What starts out as a peaceful Labor Day for a Jenks couple, ends with a rude awakening right inside their home near 120th & Elwood.
Police say 52-year-old Elizabeth Carella was high on 3M Dust Remover Spray when she crashed her BMW into a home. The incident was just three blocks away from Carella's home.
Carella left the roadway on Elwood Ave., driving more than 300 feet before mowing down a fence, crashing into a transformer and then into a home.
The homeowners say they had to yell at Carella to turn-off her car and get out. She was inside with no response.
Police say, Carella fled to a nearby church. When officers approached her outside the church, Carella denied the incident and ever driving the car. Officers found a BMW key inside her purse.
The homeowners were sitting inside on the couch at the time of the crash. They say, first the electricity went out, then they heard a big boom. Luckily no one was injured.
The Jenks and Glenpool Fire Departments responded to the blaze. The home is a total loss.

Any other kind of car (well, except maybe a Mercedes) would have been stopped by the transformer.

Jokes aside, bad deal for the homeowners.

Wow...just wow...

The fire part is a little weird though. Cars crash into buildings on a depressingly regular basis. They don't generally cause fires when they do.

If pot were legal, there'd be no use for getting high this way.

Why are most these type of weird occurrences associated with legal substances?

Strange indeed. She still claims she wasn't the one who drove into the house. She's got issues...now her issues have issues.

Buffalo Chips

Because these items are easy to hide for addicts

No she doesn't have issues, she has volumes.

I tried to watch Harold and Kumar's 3-D Christmas on HBO and just couldn't make it all the way through. Twenty years ago this kind of humor would have made me laugh and not think anything of it.
If this is what Hollywood thinks about pot use and the people that do it. There is no hope that it will ever be legalized. Trust me, People who have never smoked it. Believe this kind of portrayal.
It is just a updated rude and crude "Reefer Madness"

A side note though. The part where Neil Patric Harris was outed as not being gay was hilarious.

It may be her drug use is a result of her mental condition (rather than the other way around) so she might as well been trying to snort a cannonball out of an artillery piece.

A normal person smoking a joint would only be newsworthy if a "task force" needed a photo op to justify their existence.
....which brings me to the turf war between OBNDD and the DEA:

TULSA, Okla. — Records show that a dispute between federal and state agencies led to state drug agents being evicted from the Oklahoma office they shared with federal agents for a decade.
The Tulsa World reported Sunday that a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent told the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics director that the state agents had to leave the McAlester building they shared.
The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics is now renting space in another McAlester office.
The World obtained the letter and other documents through a public records request. A DEA spokeswoman said the federal agent's letter speaks for itself.
Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics director Darrell Weaver said there's been an attempt by DEA agents in Oklahoma to create a drug task force that would have state agents answering to DEA supervisors.

Not many people want to admit that the Mexican Zetas were originally special-forces-trained cops who decided there was more profit in cutting off their rival's heads than pretending to fight the War on Drugs.  Hopefully their Okie counterparts wont be so extreme.

I agree. I can't quite get it across to my family how much damage this movie and "the Hangover" do to the next generations. They are admittedly quite funny but not very accurate and trivialize really serious substance abuse issues.

I suppose there were people who saw Cheech and Chong's movies too which made an entire generation look like lovable, hopeless hippies stoning their way through life. Wait...that did describe one of them!

I drove by this on the way in this morning and the description does not do it justice.  The back of the house does not back up to a street, she drove through a 5 acre field before she got the back fence then hit the house!  The fire looks like it got into the roof right away, structure still standing but I doubt salvageable.

What homeowners insurance form do you fill out and file for this one?

Yes, she had to go down a small culvert ditch, then like 300 feet through a field over a transformer through a privacy fence across the backyard into the back of the house. My friend that lives across the street said they said she was still trying to accelerate when they were trying to pull her out of the car. She then apparently ran over to Jenks Church to a little enclosed patio they have and hid behind the patio furniture.

I also live "across the street" and wonder...
How long did it take for the fire dept to get on the scene..   They're .7 miles away to get to the front of the house.
Seems like a lot of damage considering how close the station is...

Just a guess but if the fire started under or near the back porch it would get into the roof structure immiediately and with the steep roof pitch spread quite rapidly.

I live in Southcreek on the other side of the fire station, My friends live three doors down from the fire. Small world.

We had family over for brunch and the power went out for a minute or so. I assume from the crash or the maybe the firemen cutting the power to the house. When our guests were leaving maybe 15 minutes later the sky was filled with smoke.

When I worked retail, we had a couple of them who often visited to buy as many cans as they could carry. Once management caught on they refused to sell them. Pathetic characters that you had to feel sorry for. Involuntary shakes, incoherent. One of them stole an armload of them and ran off with the asst. manager giving chase. He called police but they couldn't find her for about a half hour. Then they found her crumpled body in the garage of a nearby vacant home for sale. Tragic.
