I am building in Broken Arrow @ Trinity Creek (well, it's Tulsa, but BA schools) and would like to see some nice restaurants going in. I don't want to sound pessimistic or cynical, but the list of restaurants that I have heard going into the Bass Pro district is less than appealing to me.
* Steak-n-Shake - no thanks.
* Toby Keith's - I haven't been to the one in OKC, but he looks like a dirty redneck. Will his restaurant be a big barn where you sit at picnic tables or on hay-bales?
* Los Cabos - Getting better. The joint on the River walk has a bit of an identity crisis with WAY over-priced drinks.
* Olive Garden - That's ok, but there are enough of those in town.
* PF Chang's - Even though I despise most chains, I would like to see this happen, but it is most likely a rumor. PFC doesn't seem to hold the strategy of putting multiple places in the same metro area.
Broken Arrow has a ton of fast food joints so we don't need any more of those. I would like to see nicer, more independent establishments come into the area. Every restaurant that opens in BA seems to thrive. I think this Bass Pro district would be very attractive to someone with a quality product to serve.
Does anyone have any insight of new restaurants in this area?
I am not sure about PF Chang's but I also heard that it was coming. As far as Toby Keith's, it is a very nice looking place and the last time I was in OKC, the wait was 3 hours and they had stopped taking reservations so that will not be so good, but great business for the City of Broken Arrow. I agree that BA does not need anymore fast food. It was just announced not too long ago that Copeland's New Orleans is coming to BA near 71st and 129th. That is near Ted's.

Runts BBQ is open now...
Lonestar to be open soon. (It looks finished, but I have yet to see the inevitable "Now Hiring" signs.)
More of the same to help keep Oklahoma one of the nation's worst health states due to obesity. Shameful.

Give me a break. People aren't fat because of the existence of restaurants, but because the lack of self control to stop eating or not exercising.
And yes, I think most people would say I am fat.
No, you give me a break. These places take our money and send it to their corporations out of state and offer in return low paying jobs. They offer menus that are void of any health. Not only that, they continue to fry with trans fats a known agent in the cause of deadly diseases.
People are not fat because of restaurants. But there are too few and far between that offer up a good diet. Fat sold here. It adversley affects us all. Fast food nation and we are it's capitol.
So, do you support smoking too?
Support your local restaurants, clubs and musicians or loose the city identity.

These places take our money
I'm pretty sure they aren't taking anyone's money. You have to give it to them.
People are free to do with there money as they wish. If they want to eat at Lone Star then fine. But did you ever think of the places outside Oklahoma that help Oklahoma? Have you ever eaten at a Sonic outside Oklahoma? How about a Camille's? Do you ever hear your out of state friends say that they went to Hobby Lobby? How about QT - ever fill up at a QuikTrip outside of Oklahoma?
I guess since we can't eat or shop anywhere with headquarters outside Oklahoma, those outside Oklahoma can't eat or shop at places with headquarters in Oklahoma. At least that it what it seems like you are implying.

Maybe they're taking their time like they did with the one on 71st st. (ie empty for a few years)
Oh, and a mile east of Bass Pro (in front of Lowes) is a "Buffalo Wild Wings." Some sort of big sports bar/grill. Looks to open early 2007.

I thought it was empty because it was built at the wrong location and lowes owned the property.
Buffalo Wild Wings is pretty good, but just a average sports bar though. WingRun, WingstoGo have just as good as wings as they do.
Tulsa, one of the unhealthiest cities in America.
You want our city to attract business here you better start with putting these junk food restaurants off your lists.
We need to do a lot better.....

That makes no sense to me, what does a restaurant have to do with bringing in business? Please explain this to me.
Most of these so called, "Junk food" places are getting rid of the trans-fat and already have health conscious menu items. Still there are plenty of gyms and trails around tulsa, but it is the restaurants fault that you are overweight...give me a break
Question, are you in good health?
Isn't that interesting, # one in hunger and tops in being out of shape and over weight, teenage pregnacies, divorce, homicide, etc. A church a gas station and a fast food restaurant on every corner. A connection?
If Okies concentrated on what they eat and working out like I do, Men's Journal would rank us in the top 5 not the bottom 5, Unknown one.
You don't see the connection?
Well, if I am looking across the country for a place to move offices or a workforce, I want a place conducive to good health, good attitudes, and good people for several reasons.
Do you think there is a correlation between business and health? The artist seems to understand.
And do not buy into the bs restaurants put out about their new menus. Most salads etc. are still loaded with high calorie counts. Can you tell me of 5 healthy places to eat out in Tulsa? Go to any big city and there are lots of choices.
The paper today said the poor who can't afford food are also overweight.
Last I checked you can buy a couple of cans of corn for the price of a large fry. But maybe I'm headed towards a different issue...

Well you have to understand not everyone wants to live their life like you do and probably aren't reading Men's Journal and counting their calories and eating carrot sticks.
Depends on what you consider healthy... I can get a decent dinner at almost anyplace in Tulsa. Granted not every restaurant has wheat grass shots and Salad Wraps, but what establishment doesn't have salad, baked chicken and some veggies??? And what salad dressing isn't high in Calories? Anyways, that is what I would consider healthy... probably not to your standards, but whatever.
I just think it is asinine to think there is a correlation betweeen businesses coming to tulsa and the amount of healthy places to eat.
I have no standards for other's.
Attracting people to Tulsa is dependent on lifestyle.
And most educated people like a healthy lifestyle.
I think it is asinine to believe there is no correlation between our environment and health to the quality of life (hence business attractiveness) to Tulsa.
BTW, chicken is hazardous to your insides as well as our water......I prefer a good steak now and then.
I think you should find some statistics for that opinion... being educated does not mean you eat right.
I truly doubt that any business owner has passed over Tulsa for the lack of a healthly lifestyle... once again there are plenty of gyms and trails that can cater to their lifesyle.
The best meal is cooked at home anyways... and I'll never pass up a Porterhouse[:P]

Actually, according to local news, Tulsa ranked in the past year as one of the nation's fittest cities. In 2005, Tulsa ranked as one of the fattest cities. I'm not sure who conducted this study or why there was such a dramatic turnaround, but I'm positive I heard this on local news recently.
Can anyone back me up here?

So going by the artist links eating healthy makes you smarter? That still doesn't say anything about intelligent people that eat unhealthy, which I know there are plenty of. England also has a study that shows the poorest people in England are Healhier than wealthy Americans...
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5377794
Still the thought of a potential Business declining to open in Tulsa for the lack of what you consider healthy choices... is outrageous
That is interesting that even the poor in England are healthier than the wealthy in the US. If as a later TW article suggested that the least expensive food is the unhealthy food... then is healthy food cheaper in the UK? Or is it as I suspect, cheaper food isn't really more expensive its that the poor here have the habit of eating unhealthy junk and fatty foods, and do not have the knowlege or concern to eat healthy. I know from experience that you can make some great meals out of the slimmest and cheapest of provisions.
I also remember an article where they had it so that some poor people in the US had the choice between whole grain breads and white bread, both for free, they pretty much unanimously always chose the white bread.
Charleston's is coming along the Bass Pro Lake next to Los Cabos. There will be a patio overlooking Bass Pro and the Lake.

Charleston's
The new Charleston's is opening today in Broken Arrow next to Los Cabos.
The Olive Garden in front of Target opened on Monday.
The new Charleston's has a patio and will begin hosting live music along Bass Pro Lake similar to Los Cabos.
Broken Arrow did well by obtaining the Bass Pro Shop. Tulsa really didn't think that through in the least. I'm just glad the metro area has one. They are bigger draws than some realize. A Bass Pro Shop would have been perfect near downtown around Sand Springs due to it's proximity to Lake Keystone and helped kick that part of town into over-drive.

Good point but Bass Pro, as where she is now, is closer to lakes far better than Keystone. Better lakes in my opinion include Ft. Gibson, Tenkiller, Eufaula, Broken Bow, Hudson etc... Also there is the navigation channel, Grand River, Three Forks area etc...
But yes, Bass Pro in Sands Springs may have done wonders in development that BA is now being rewarded with.
When construction begins on the Conference Center/Hotel, interest should rise in that area.
Paradox Pub & Grill
In the Village at Stone Wood Hills, there will be a new restaurant called Paradox Pub & Grill. The sign says sports bar, restaurant and nightlife. Should be a good place to check out in the Tulsa/Broken Arrow area.
Also, former Runt's BBQ will be opening as a Game Day Tailgate Grill soon.

I'm excited for Paradox the chef will be Eli from Oscars Gastropub. I think they are about 2-3 weeks from opening.
Now the Game Day grill place, I think this is the wrong location in the wrong market. They did their first now hiring over fourth of july weekend! This place will fail quicker than runts in my mind.
We just installed Gameday Tailgates Satellite system today. I have a early invite to the Family and Friends opening. I might have to check the place out. My installer say's all the TV's are wall projections. He likes how they redone the inside. Gonna be tough to compete with the Paradox though.
The reason there are more chains than anything else local is because most people in Tulsa have zero clue(or at least the ones that think chedders & fish daddy's) is the next best thing to god and actually makes good food. I always avoid a chain, if I have to go to one, usually the food is made wrong, has to be sent back or asked to be comped it was so bad.(5 second rule anyone?).
Just drive down 71st street on a Friday night / Saturday there is no way a mom and pop could come close to competing with them anywhere near them. This is why downtown establishments are doing so well and everyone should take note to try to keep the chains out of downtown like they have taken over in bricktown in Oklahoma City, most small mom and pop's are gone in OKC now. Just lost Lola's..whats next?

What chains have "taken over" Bricktown? Seems like there's still a good balance of one-off bars and restaurants as well as mini-chains like In The Raw or Chillenos.
Angus Inn down on main street BA is better than any of the chain steakhouses, and it is very short drive for BPS area.
And if you want bar-b-que, well still out of luck in BA. Billy Sim's is about it. Not bad, but not as good as it could be.
Must have bar-b-que; Oologah, OK.

Wow now that is a koo winky dink. We just installed the owner of The Angus Inns Satellite service at his home. He told me to come by and try them out. I have lived out here in B.A. since 1983 and had never heard of his restaurant. And now I have twice in less than a week. Sounds like a sign of some sort.
Angus has been around a long time - 15 years?? I haven't been there in about two, but it was always excellent before.
How could you have never heard of them if have been in BA since 1983?? Oh,... one of the 'new' addition people - the bedroom community types....
Well, you owe it to yourself to drive down main street once in a while. Angus is a jewel. There is another right next door for old fat guys like me. A real live, honest-to-God chocolatier!! She has been there a few years and the chocolate is world class. You won't find better in New York, LA or Belgium. Guaranteed. But then you must like real chocolate better than the Hershey's or Russell Stover's or Godiva's wax chocolate!
Don't get me wrong - I like the wax chocolates, too - and they are mostly more cost effective. Have been to the Godiva's factory in Pennsylvania and spent two days working there - now THAT is heaven on earth!! But this place is amazing.
Gaspar,
Just as information note; checked BA Reasor's Saturday and they have not yet heard of you. Sadly.
Will keep checking with them from time to time.

Cool. I need to come down there and mingle.
They have a wonderful facility there. And there is a somewhat skimpy attendance of vendors. I talked to the guy running the show last year about doing just that kind of food thing and he was kind of arrogant about it - saying they wanted only to have "made/grown in Oklahoma". Anyway, will have to revisit that.

Actually not so impressed with Poblano's, at least not the one on Douglas in MWC. I thought their menu was pricey for average food.
Nino's on Air Depot between 15th & Reno in MWC rocks. That's some great Mexican grub.
Of course, Mexican is just like BBQ: One man's swill is another's five star gourmet meal. So many different tastes and varying sophistication in the pallate.
Boy, ain't that the truth!! If you want some REAL swill, go up to Claremore and eat at the little Mexican restaurant there - El Charro. God, what a mess that stuff is! I cannot believe the taste buds in that town that think it is good food???????
Everybody ought to try it once just as reference to see how great Taco Bell is by comparison. (Even Taco Mayo - previously the worst Mexican food in the world - is edible compared to that.)

Also, Hillside Drive is in design stages to be extended from Charlestons to Lynn Lane, connecting the Bass Pro development with Target, Cinemark and Lowes development. Look for more restaurants to open in this corridor over the next 2 years. Cracker Barrel has been rumored, but no official word yet.
BAGuy. Is Paradox still open? everytime I drive by there. The stools are on the tables and it is closed.

Any plans to fix up stretches of Elm? Drove on it the other day. It looks horrible. Like a 1970's television show opening sequence.
I wish Elm were upgraded to a boulevard similar to the new stretch between 51st and St. John BA.
Paradox is closed and I would suspect Full Moon will lease that space. Great location and already set up for a cafe/bar.

Just drove by and Full Moon is already moving in. I have never been to The Full Moon Cafe. Can somebody tell me if it's a restaurant or a Bar/Club?

Over the decades they've been a Restaurant with a heavy bar presence and can have loud bands later on weekend nights. The remaining Full Moon has a different owner than when there were 3 of them.

OK wait. As in kid friendly?
If it's the same as the one on 15th, then it's a good bet it is.

Restaurant primarily. The one on Cherry St. has live music several nights a week so it becomes more of a bar later in the evening. I don't recall what time it usually starts, around 9, I think.

Note "decades". Plural. More than one decade.
