OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma's per capita personal income gr[ew] by 7.6% last year, the third-highest growth rate nationally. That's according to preliminary federal figures released Tuesday. Oklahoma has not ranked this high since the state was # 1 in personal income growth during the oil boom in 1979.
Personal income in the state grew to $32,210 in 2006, which is 37th nationally.
That compares to $29,948 in 2005, which was 39th among all states.
According to statistics released by the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Economic Analysis, the mining sector, which includes the oil and gas industry, accounted for about a third of the growth in earnings in Oklahoma last year.
Nationally, personal income grew 6.3% last year, up from 5.2% in 2005.
It's good news that we're rising, but the downside to it is that 1/3 of the growth in personal income was due to the oil and natural gas companies, which makes me think that this area is still entirely too dependent on oil (just as when we were ranked #1 in growth in 1979, also due to oil). Hopefully this will spark some kind of interest, or perhaps pull in some more higher-paying jobs and professionals (you know, those 60,000 that we're supposedly lacking).
We're still very low in the ranking, but it's getting better!
Bad news for the glass half-empty crowd. Bring on the comments about our sucky job situation. [V]
Problem is, this growth is not shared across the board. This is a rising tide that lifts all yachts, same as it's been for the past seven years.
im in the oil and gas industry, and I can tell you business is good....and will be for a while.

i encourage you to invest in a natural gas burning Civic GX and a home refill appliance. the refiners will be bending over those of us using gas this summer. Look forward to $3.20 regular.
Just got off the phone with Tom Sewell owner of Tulsa Gas Technologies. They have been shipping out the Natural Gas fill stations in rapid order since the price of gasoline hit $2.00 again.
Seems many people have converted over to Natural Gas systems for their poppet valve internal combustion recriprocating piston powered vehicles. The lack of movement and technology in the automotive industry makes me feel as if we all are still driving an 8-Track Tape Player equivilant to the Memory Stick MP3 player.

Where exactly is Tulsa in these stats?
Tom Sewell was wise to get out of the electrical contracting business and start TGT when he did. I know they went through some lean times early on, but they are doing quite well now.
My own industry is going well because industrial and commercial customers are looking for ways to cut fuel consumption. Lower emissions requirements in various states is helping us as well. It's been very interesting to see the things people are looking at extracting Btu's out of for plant operations and power generation.
The down-side has been increased fuel costs for our fleet vehicles, which necessitated a rise in our billable labor rates to cover the cost.

did he say how much the Phill home refill stations are going for these days?
Double A:
So you are only glad to see economic news that see all peoples treated equally? There are two basic choices, either have fluctuations in class and earnings based primarily on market factors (what does this worker have to sell). OR have all people be equally poor.
