I will never likely set foot in this proposed building. At least they chose the intersection on US75 that already has controlled access.

Glenpool - A first-of-its kind Wal-Mart will soon be coming to a Tulsa suburb.
The new SuperCenter will be built on the southwest corner of Highway 75 and 121st Street in Glenpool. The plan calls for a more upscale look. Designers say they want to get away from the 'big box' appearance.
The 196-thousand square foot store will also feature an outside dining area and more landscaping.
Of the 220 new Wal-Marts being built across the country this year, this one is the only one that will look like this.
So, why was Glenpool chosen?
"Because the community has been so receptive to Wal-Mart," says Planning Director Stan Ewing. "This is going to give them an opportunity to come into a community and not have anti-Wal-Mart distractions, that type of thing. It's kind of a reward for being friendly, maybe."
The new Wal-Mart is expected to bring three hundred jobs to Glenpool and generate 480-thousand dollars in additional tax revenue. It's expected to open next Spring.
There are also plans for restaurants, hotels and a doctor's office in the area around the new store.

I don't care what they dress it up as, it is still a very big big box at 190,000 plus square feet of cheapness.
Finally, a shopping center for SW Tulsa. Thought I'd die before seeing it.

This iisn't a SW tulsa shopping center, this is a walmart. Tulsa Hills, with 2 miles of big box goodness, is a shopping center.
Stay tuned there's more to come. Wal-Mart is just the start.

Glenpool is doing very well lately.
All these years of trying to stay a bedroom community are over. There is good leadership there, new homes being built, and now they are getting some retail stores to provide some revenue for city services.
For those interested, here is the developer's concept for the retail center.

That is a pretty Wal-Mart.
I also like the location of the hotel in the middle.
Maybe now there can be a hotel in south tulsa worth staying at....
I wonder if this one will have lines that stretch into the clothing section while there are only 10 out of 50 registers open, like the one at 66th and Memorial and the one by ORU?

The Hilton on 169 and 81st is very nice. I thought it was nicer than the Doubletree.

Well, and you're aware that the Doubletree brand is owned by hilton?

I am going to try the doubletree this weekend.
I just want something other than Best Western on the southside, ideally Glenpool. The incompetance of the Glenpool BW has probably cost the chain 200 room nights a year from our company alone.
We went to the Presidential Suites at 61st and Memorial a few months ago just to get away. I had found a great rate on an internet site.
http://www.presidentialsuitestulsa.com/
It ain't the Four Seasons, but we were pleasantly surprised at the size of the room and the nice bed. It also had a good breakfast and free internet so I could read this forum.

Current rumor is that the 121st & Hwy 75 site could have 2 hotels a Marriot product & a Holiday Inn Express. Of course till we see walls it's all rumor.
Is there really a need for 2 new hotels in Glenpool??
I would be surprised to see a Holiday Inn Express go in since there is one in Jenks. Although, the one in Jenks does look quite busy all of the time.
I didn't realize that the Glenpool development was going to be as large as it is. I live just off 121st, so I am not sure that I am looking forward to all of the traffic getting on and off at 75.

Lots of people pass through town on their way up and down US-75. As it stands, not much looks very inviting from the highway its entire trip through Tulsa County, so I can imagine some new decent quality nice looking hotels that appear to be situated right by basic services a hotel patron might fancy - might be in demand. I wish Tulsa would try to get a hotel for Tulsa Hills to cut off this Glenpool development. But as it stands, Glenpool is like the "entrance" to Tulsa for people traveling north out of Texas - so it has the best position to line the highway with nice hotels.
Glenpool is a good place for chain hotels.
When we travel by car as a family, I often try to push it and try to drive too long just to get to the next town. The kids get cranky and I have to just stop at the first decent looking hotel on the metro outskirts.

The Jenks Aquarium Inn is the only hotel in the metro area that lets you rent their ballroom and bring in your own liquor. Most hotels charge you really high prices and make you use their bartenders.
We had a party there last summer and brought in two margarita machines.

And gosh, have ya seen that absolutely incredible mural in their lobby? [8D]
I hadn't thought of it that way that Glenpool is the southern corridor from Texas so you would want hotels in the area.
Holiday INN express probably doesn't want to mess with the liquor liability so they allow you to bring your own.
I can't say that I have stepped foot into the lobby of the hotel to see their "art", but I might next month when my mom is in town for Christmas.
I hear there will be a press conference by Glenpool officials Wed 11/14 to discuss economic development stats, and possibly a new development in the Glenpool area further south from the Wal-Mart.
Does anyone know if there was any new substantial information shared at the press conference?
I don't know. I did notice the "branding" that Glenpool came up with.

Looks like they're mostly just touting expansion possibilities around that site.
That logo is a turd. Can you say turd on the forum? I just did. It's a steaming pile of poo.
Man, if they'd change their mind on that thing, I'd design them a new one for a reasonable price.

I think the preferred Tulsa Now Forum terminology is "a veritable explosion of fractional fecal components."
You were so close though.

From the plans I have seen, there is supposed to be a hotel in either Phase 1 or Phase 2. Phase 2 isnt being developed by the same developer as Phase 1 though. Atleast last I checked, they were trying to get rid of it. But expect a decent quality hotel in Tulsa Hills down the road.

glad to see its coming along. I am closing on my new house Jan 30th in (as your name implies) south county in the addition of South Woods. I am just surprised that it wont actually open til April. I was by there the other day, and it looked farther along then 3 months of inside work. Maybe its just me though.
Looks like the Medical Clinic is about to start. Also looks like the pool place is moving south.

I am glad to know I can get medical care and pool service in Glenpool.
Surprisingly, I can get hurt in the pool fairly easily.

you are not the only one I am sure. Gleenpool is coming along these days, especially landing this walmart. Hopefully they start on the stop light at 111th and hwy 75 soon. They have already started doing the easement work on it. Then it will be stoplight-less (if thats a word) drive to downtown! hooray!
For those interested:
Wal-Mart to open May 7. They are hiring 350 people. You can apply at Glenpool City Hall M-F 8-8. Also they are to have a big opening ceremony for their new "green" store concept. CNN business and top Wal-Mart brass expected.
Also hear IHOP is on board. They are to be on the lake with outdoor seating.
Sante Fe Cattle Co. to start construction in a couple of weeks.
Plus another retail complex supposedly in works same site just northwest of Wal-mart.
Thanks for the info on Wal-mart. I am glad that I will be a little over a mile away from it. I am not looking forward to the traffic mess that it will create for the people exiting off of 75 at 121st.
Is the other shopping place the one with the land close to Tulsa Winch where they have had the sign up for retail space for several years?

No - same site just to the north and west a bit of Wal-Mart

Is Wal-mart still opening on Wednesday?
Yes! 8am is opening for public with 7:30am ceremony.
What's the building being built in one of the outlots near Wal-mart? The one that is framed and they were bricking it yesterday.
Upon further review today, it looks like its going to be Sonic.

Correct. The other steel frame on west a bit is the medical clinic. Santa Fe Cattle Co will be next to the Sonic. Plans are in review now.
