Went to White River last Friday with a large group. Everyone had a wide variety of dishes from Sea Bass and Scallops, to Catfish, Salmon and Shrimp. Everyone was quite pleased.

My broiled platter with Scallops, Orange Roughy and Shrimp was awesome. OH! And the hush puppies are wonderful!

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays they have Lobster dinners.

Good stuff! (http://members.cox.net/tulsamini/smilies/clapclap.gif)

I have eaten at White River Fish Market about a hundred times.

My wife and I went there for many a Valentine's day and had their $15 Lobster tail dinner.

They also sell some very interesting seafood choices. I have also bought frog legs, squid and turtle meat from them over the decades I have eaten there. I also buy lots of shrimp from them.

Once my son and I didn't catch big enough fish from Flat Rock creek near Yahola, so I took him to White River and we got some beautiful, cleaned river trout. I made him stay a few feet away and I tossed him the wrapped fish so he could tell his mother with a straight face that he "caught" them.

They also have the absolute best gumbo mix ever sold. You provide the main ingrediants, and their set of spices and instructions make it impossible to mess up.

Other options:  Wild Fork does a great job with fish - always perfectly cooked.  Carrabba's (Yes, I know it's a chain.) has excellent mussels and calamari.  And for the best crab cakes around, head to A Bar (in the old Grapevine space).  Marcus' crab cakes are just incredible - big fat chunks of jumbo lump crab, onion, and a little mayo.  None of that nasty cheap dark meat crab and a bunch of filler/breading.  These are spectacular!

For me the best crab cakes in town are at Stonehorse Cafe.  I have yet to find a restaurant that does not over cook scallops or fish.  Bonefish is not all that, basically boring sauces, nothing interesting or inspired.  Islamorada at Bass is only servicable. The original restaurant in Islamorada, Fl does a much better job.  I have come to believe that if it is not natural to the area, then most of the kitchens do not know how to cook it. I grew up on the coast of Florida, I really do not go out for seafood here.

Used to be that Bodean's supplied the fresh fish for most of the area restaurants and had much of it flown in.  Anyone know if that's still the case?

Anyone know if the shrimp trucks still come up from the Gulf w/ fresh catch like they used to 20 years ago?

Bruno,

Thanks, I got signed up on their email list.  They used to stop at the Albertson's parking lot at 81st & Yale when I lived out that way, but I'd not seen their trucks around town in a long while.

White River Fish Market is the best I have found for value in seafood in Tulsa today.

Pennington's had the best fried shrimp for years in Tulsa when they were located on Brookside at the drive in.  Shrimp in a basket complete with a small dinner salad with French Dressing, a hot buttered roll with honey, French Fries and that awesome battered butterfly fried shrimp with Tarter and Cocktail sauce.

None better I have ever found than Arch Pennington's fried Shrimp.

Having eaten both, I'd rate Bros. Houligan's just a tick better than Pennington's.  They use chicken fry batter on theirs and it's a huge meal.

Fabians didn't waste any time adding me to their email list, they will be here tomorrow, July 11 at Auto Tops of Tulsa on 41st St. east of Memorial.  I believe that's about where the split is for the BA service road.

The Green Onion also has a decent Fried Shrimp deal.  Almost forgot about them, been a few years since I had a really thick Rib-Eye steak that Dean from the radio station ad department bought me.  That was back in the days of expense accounts that seem to of gone the way of the hoola hoop in today's business world.

They also have some very flavorful Sherried Tomato Soup.  We used to meet there once a month in the back meeting room, when I was in the South Tulsa Professionals group.
