Title: What's the best place to donate consumer goods? Post by: sgrizzle on July 13, 2007, 10:03:42 am Everyone seems to be in the business these days of collecting old stuff and opening a thrift store. Goodwill is the best known and some others I have issues with. I was told the Salvation Army was pricing all their clothes with grease pens seemingly lowering their value and making people less interested in buying. Seems dumb to me.
Prevent Blindness I've had personal issue with. They call several times a month asking if we have anything to donate. If we say yes, they will call a week before pickup and the day or two loeading up to it. By my count they called 12 times AFTER we said yes. Even with these 12 calls, they still never actually picked anything up. Twice they have been a "no-show." On a side note, one time they showed up unexpectedly while I was taking out the trash. I only knew because my trash bag was gone and a "thank you" receipt was left in it's place. I just wanted to get other opinions on what to do with this stuff. We donated a good portion of my brother's goods and clothing to his church thrift store in Stillwater since that was a big part of his life. Personally, I donate to Goodwill. We do some maintenance work for them. I've walked through the SW Blvd plant and talked to some of the people the program helps. Just my personal preference. |
