Title: South Yale @ Creek Turnpike New Traffic Problem Post by: Ward on July 23, 2007, 07:50:56 pm South Yale Ave at the Creek Turnpike was recently re-striped or painted, for traffic moving southbound. The City has incorrectly painted the road and it is causing more harm than good. Traffic has never been so backed up and it's causing accidents as we live in the area. The far right lane as you travel south was the normal lane to be in to proceed in that direction and the left lane was for traffic wishing to go East on the Creek Turnpike. The City re-striped and made the left lane the proper lane to be in to proceed southbound. The far right lane is the lane that you have to (merge) from to go south. This places twice the amount of cars in the left lane wishing to go south....you get the picture? Stop by at 5pm to experience it for yourself. It's a sad design flaw. [:(!]

In the past, you were in the left lane, then, all of a sudden, found yourself in a left-turn-only lane. All of the new striping makes sense.

It is terribly confusing and I can't believe how bad the traffic back-ups have gotten since I moved away from that area four years ago.
I had lunch with a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago who works for the engineering firm that does most of Tulsa's street and right-of-way engineering. I mentioned this very issue to him whilst we were eating. He said the city did not follow the engineering company's recommendations and drawings for the lane alignments.
