I've used it for work but the cost ended up being like 30% higher than just going and getting it myself.

Was the convenience worth the price?

When my wife was laid up with two broken wrists and depending on me for sustenance and housekeeping, someone made the thoughtful and generous gift of delivered meals through 742-DINE. They were prompt, the food was hot and the price included a tip. It sure worked well in that circumstance.

Used it dozens of times.  Quick and reasonable.  Great for anyone sick and sick of pizza!

Great Menu books too.

Is 742-dine the only company of its kind?

Yes, I've lived in other cities where there were more, I don't believe we have the population density to support more than one of these in Tulsa.

How do they make there money?  The delivery charge can't be enough.

I've use them when my daughter was born and my wife and I were traped in the house for 2 weeks.  It was nice.  You can look at all of the menu's online and they are very quick!

I am going to use it, as soon as I have decided where I want the food delivered from: so many interesting choices!

Not the one time I tried. I found out that on top of the delivery fee, they were charging a dollar or more per item on our order over in-store menu price. $50 worth of food ran about $80. It was only being delivered about 8 blocks away.

I am good friends with the owner of 742-dine.

She has a great volume of business, partly because her service is very reliable.

I've used it often, and for me it is worth the cost.  It was an especially wonderful treat after I delivered my second baby and was still in the hospital.  The service has always been good and the food is always hot.

They make money because they probably get a percentage of the price of the food. That's usually how those deals work.

Buzz, sounds like from your posts you are trying to get into the delivery business.  I believe there was a competitor here for some time, but they folded their tent.

742-DINE has been around a long time, at least 15 to 18 years now, if not longer.  If you are interested in doing something like that, I'd recommend you go to work for them for awhile and figure out how it all works.  They would have to get some sort of kickback out of the restaurants, or it might just be a monthly "advertising fee" which keeps a restaurant's menu in 742-Dine's master menu for a month and that's where overhead and profit come from.  Delivery charges might be a wash.

I'm not saying I know inside info, but that's a logical way of how it all could work.  It's a business I have no interest in so I've never really put much thought in the business model.

Not saying you couldn't do it.  Hell, look how wrong Fred Smith's professor got the concept of Fed-X all wrong!

I have used them several times and they are way faster than the local pizza places. FYI - tip is not included. They ask you tip the driver as you would your server at the restaurant (20 percent) I think it's a little much since they aren't going to refill my water or clean the table when I'm finished, but they are fast and I usually tip well, anyway.

The Owasso area now has Fine Dining that makes deliveries so there is another food delivery service in the area.

Just call 272-Fine and they make deliveries in the Owasso/Collinsville area.

Their web site is http://www.finedinedelivery.com/
