Title: Viento Sur Quartet Argentina @ Jazz Depot
Post by: Gina Holloway on February 20, 2008, 11:10:32 am

Viento Sur, a quartet made up of four of the top trombonists in the world, is traveling from the state orchestra of Argentina to perform at the Jazz Depot on Monday, February 25, at 7 p.m.  The quartet performs both jazz and classical music and combines trombone quartet repertoire and the adaptation of Argetine tangos and milongas.
Since the beginning, around 1996, Viento Sur has been known for being a group with serious artistic ambitions and irrevocable work spirit, forging a sonority and expressiveness that separates them from other trombone ensembles. Members of the quartet have also played around the world in countries such as Germany, Peru and Brazil.
The quartet has performed in many of Argentina’s finest concert venues and has given lectures and master classes at numerous universities, conservatories, and music schools, in addition to being artists-in-residence at "Trombonanza", an annual international trombone festival held in Santa Fe since 2001.  Future presentations include tours in the United States of America and Europe in the next seasons, as well as being featured in the “International Trombone Festival” (Salt Lake City, Utah, USA) and the "Eastern Trombone Workshop" (Virginia, USA) in 2008, among others.
The members of the "Viento Sur" trombone quartet are Pablo Fenoglio, Carlos Ovejero, Jorge Urani and Enrique Schneebeli, and the group’s first CD is titled “From the South & Other Winds."
The concert is in conjunction with a trombone clinic sponsored by the University of Tulsa, to be held at 6 p.m. at the Jazz Hall.  The clinic is open to the public.
Tickets are $15; $10 for seniors & Jazz Hall members; $5 for college and high school students; Youth under 12 Free. Refreshments will be available.  For more information on this event, visit http://okjazz.org or contact the Jazz Hall at 581-1001.  For more information on the band, visit www.vientosurtrombones.com .
