Title: Watching the tournament at work??
Post by: safetyguy on March 20, 2008, 11:39:41 AM
Who is going to be streaming the games while at work? Anyone had their IT nerds block the access? Anyone taking long lunches today and tomorrow to watch?

I am fortunate to work from home, so I am on the couch as I type! :)

"IT nerds?"  we in IT blocked it for everyone else and left our subnet untouched just to feed the bad misconceptions about us.

IT= The exception to the rules...

I'm lucky enough to have a TV in my office

Heh, one of my clients has an HD projector (supposedly for presentations) in their conference room. They had me go get them another HD cable box and set it up so they can watch the games on it. Unfortunately, it's grossly miscalibrated color-wise, so I'm going to have to break out my colorimeter and calibrate it this weekend.

Of course, this is an office full of people who have 42" LCDs on their walls, and all but one has HD cable service. But no, that's not enough, they need a hundred inches in the conference room.

Another client rushed me to get his 50" plasma hooked up to his computer so he can stream the games and put them on his TV. This is a guy who refuses to get cable for the sole reason that he thinks his mostly female coworkers will end up watching soaps all day.

As an IT nerd, I do what the client asks. If the boss man who signs my check asks me to block streaming video, that's what I do. Fortunately, none of my clients are that mean. They figure it's better to have people in the office so at least they're available to take phone calls and whatnot rather than having them play hooky.
