Santa and I would like to invite you and your co-conspiring City Hall cuties to join the rest of Tulsa's elven folk for the first, hopefully annual, Tulsa Townie Critical Mass. An Eight-mile urban bike ride on Tulsa streets for the non-spandex wearing crowd. Designed for anyone of any ability on any bicycle, impersonating any local celebrity, except the Police Chief. Personally, I'd like to see a Dolly Parton impersonation by some genius impersonating Bill Martinson. Want your bike to impersonate an artbike? (http://"http://artbike.blogspot.com") Knock yerselves out. Trot out all your elves, boomerang deadbeats, and other Nintendo-playing fat kids, and enjoy a beautiful afternoon and a great event. The route will remind you how fun it can be to get off yer FAT arse and PEDAL. Lose that FAT arse, without really trying. From: Jim Beach <damjamjim@gmail. com> Sent: Wednesday, March 26, 2008 5:17:25 PM Subject: Help Wanted This year at Tulsa Tough we're introducing a new event called Tulsa Townie. It's designed to encourage people of all ages, shapes, abilities to dust off their bikes and go for a ride. We hope to plant the idea that it's okay to ride on the streets to the local coffee shop or down to the river for a cruise on the trail. The course is just under nine miles and will have the same start and finish as the other rides of the day. It minimizes traffic signals and maximizes right turns. It's all on streets ranging from low-traffic residential streets to Utica Avenue and will give riders what might be their first experience riding on the streets with traffic. My concept for support is to have experienced riders serve as on-bike sag riders who can ride with these folks and lend break-down assistance, guidance on safety and coordination with the event management to help make sure the event leaves a positive impression. This is a good opportunity for the OBC to be visible and teach by example as well as have a significant role in growing what will soon become the biggest cycling event in Oklahoma. If there is sufficient interest in this group and 10-20 of you can get together and make it happen, I'd like to know by the middle of next week. Then we'll arrange a meeting to get things rolling.
