quote:Construction work began Tuesday on the city of Sand Springs' new community center. The center, which is located on Wekiwa Road adjacent to River City Park, will be built thanks to a $4.3 million bond issue. Sand Springs voters approved the bond issue in 2005.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site Tuesday morning.

The 25,500 square foot building will feature a multi-purpose gymnasium, walking track, dance and aerobics space, indoor batting practice facility, conference rooms and administrative offices for the City's Parks and Recreation Department.

Work on the center is expected to be completed by the fall of 2008.
