I hear he might make an announcement as early as Monday. He is desperate for the media to pay attention to him and needs to do something to counteract the coverage given to Obama's world tour. It makes sense. Next week starts the Olympics, after that the democratic convention and Labor day.

My guesses are all governors. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Charlie Crist from Florida, or Tim Pawlenty from Minnesota.

Governors are a safer pick than Senators, in my opinion for McCain. It gives him a chance to say he is embracing "change" from the way Washington does business and assures him that the vice-president won't outshine him for attention (at least for a while).

Crist is the obvious choice so he can win a swing state and shore up his southern base. He has some baggage (like being engaged to five different women in his life) but has been loyal to McCain and will appeal to conservatives.

Pawlenty and Jindal are both very young and would show a real contrast to McCain's age. It hurts his argument that Obama isn't ready but could be very helpful in attracting some of the young professionals that Obama owns right now.

Jindal seems to be the choice of Rush Limbaugh for his conservative views. He is also dark-skinned, good-looking and very well-spoke. He said last week that he will not be VP and will do all he can to help McCain win his state McCain leads it by double digits right now). He is ten years younger than Obama so he will probably be smart to not lose his day job to be part of a losing ticket this year.

Pawlenty appeals to the evangelicals of the party, also comes from a swing state (where Obama is ahead by six or seven) and has been campaigning hard for McCain. He has been one of the favorites forever and McCain has even been dropping hints about him to the media. I suspect that was all a misdirection strategy, however.

It's too hot for fishing RM.

It doesn't matter anyway.

Landslide coming.
