Presidential campaigns and the Olympics

Last month, Obama bought $5 million in national television advertising during the Olympics. Yesterday, McCain bought $6 million in advertising on the same networks during the Olympics.

It is rare because no presidential campaign has bought any national television advertising at all for the last 12 years. The campaigns bought plenty of local and regional advertising, just no national broadcasts.

Why this year? Because they can (or have to)?

Why the Olympics? Is it because the athletes are seen as American heroes?

Will the Olympics even be a big deal for Americans? Won't most of the action be tape delayed?

What if America does poorly and China or Russia wins most of the medals? (Last time it was U.S. 102 medals, Russia 92 medals and China 63 medals).

Power is nothing till you use it.

5 to 6 mil doesn't sound like a huge budget for the olympics.  There's also so many different feeds these days.  Will this be prime time replay?

Any idea what the :30 spots are going for?

Yes. McCain (R-Idiot) will try to scare everyone into voting for him.
Obama will be countering the lies about him told by swift boaters through low blow ads.

I bet the networks have a package deal with the candidaates and the Olympics are just the beggining. So what you hear about expenditures are not to be believed.

Ever notice the ads on news programs are mainly for drugs.....the fearful and paranoids?
