But seriously.

Paul Volcker, former Federal Reserve Chairman, has just endorsed Obama.

quote:
"After 30 years in government, serving under five Presidents of both parties and chairing two non-partisan commissions on the Public Service, I have been reluctant to engage in political campaigns. The time has come to overcome that reluctance," Mr. Volcker said in a statement today. "However, it is not the current turmoil in markets or the economic uncertainties that have impelled my decision. Rather, it is the breadth and depth of challenges that face our nation at home and abroad. Those challenges demand a new leadership and a fresh approach."

He concluded: "It is only Barack Obama, in his person, in his ideas, in his ability to understand and to articulate both our needs and our hopes that provide the potential for strong and fresh leadership. That leadership must begin here in America but it can also restore needed confidence in our vision, our strength, and our purposes right around the world."

I'm impressed.  Obama's really racking 'em up.

Clearly, Volker and the Deadheads have no female children or grandchildren, or they would have voted for The Witch. [:D]

That coveted endorsement should put Barack over the top...

Man, if I didn't have deadlines at work, I would probably already be on the search for a plane ticket.  Uh-oh, now I'm going to be labeled a liberal commie like Aox
Vote for the two party system!

Dead heat!

Clinton lead dwindles ahead of Super Tuesday
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uselections08/hillaryclinton/story/0,,2251976,00.html
"With opinion polls showing Obama making significant gains ahead of the contest in 22 states, Clinton tried to undermine Obama's central appeal of being a politician who operated above the fray."

Now I must admit.  I am a fan!  Back in the day I traveled to about a dozen dead shows.  Nothing like it!

That said. . .

Phil, Bob & Mickey are the very last people in this quadrant of the known universe that I look to for political advice!

I like the way Alice Cooper put it:

"Why would you ask people like us about politics?  We entertain people, get drunk, and do drugs.  If you rely on us for political advice, you are an idiot!"
When attacked by a mob of clowns, always go for the juggler.

Perhaps because they ran a successful business over 30 years which continues today despite the driver for "sales" being long gone. Kinda like oil wells.

Let's face it. Even a rock band could have done a better job managing our economy than these http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080204/pl_nm/bush_budget_dc_9 idiots we let into the asylum.

cannon_fodder

At the risk of getting back on topic, FOTD, even a rock band has trouble spending much more than a few million a year when your principle activities are traveling on the company dime, having sex with groupies (who don't charge mind you), popping a few handfuls of pills and downing a couple liters of the good stuff.  Add some fast cars and a mansion and your still not spending a truely obscene amount of money.

Now the government... Republican, Democrat, whatever.  Now they can spend money.

But I have to yield to your point, I'd probably vote for a burned out stoner over most politicians.  I'd assume they weren't ambitious enough to actually get anything done - which is most likely better than whatever else we would get.

The Band plays on:

"For Immediate Release
Friday, August 29th, 2008

Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart announced today that they will join together again on October 13th to perform a benefit concert for the Presidential campaign of Senator Barack Obama, with the city, venue, special guests and other details to be determined pending further discussions with the Obama campaign..."

STRIKE UP THE BAND!

let's see, last time this event helped propell Obama to a Cali primary win. Their minions must be an important cross section of true Americana!
