Just talked to a friend who has worked at Worldcom/MCI/Verizon they just told him they are closing out the NOC and all will be given severance..this is a well paying position in Tulsa with around 50-75 people employed on 24 shifts at the center in the Cherokee Industrial Park, this was one of the large sections still left in Tulsa at Verizon that wasn't low paying and/or customer service jobs.

10 year "survivor" here.  That really sucks.  However I don't believe I know anyone at the NOC.

Oh and our IT is still pretty strong, although I am now officially a "minority" <sigh>

That sucks.  I hope it isn't a trend.

Are the closing due to general downsizing?   Does it mean they could potentially reopen it?

I believe Verizon was moving(but not the people) the jobs to their center in Virginia or somewhere around that area..

That's the peril in attracting small groups of higher-paying jobs from large employers.  Sooner or later the consolidation bug hits and we wind up losing them again.
