I am looking for a good psychiatrist here in Tulsa. I have been diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder. I used to see one at Parkside, but all he would tell me to do to handle my anxiety was breathing exercises which is a JOKE!!!! I have alot of things going on right now. I'm 26 both my parents are deceased one died recently, my 2 year old has a medical condition that's affecting her ability to walk and talk, I have twin 5 month olds one who is just now getting over severe Reflux and apnea, I'm attending 2 colleges at once, and fixing to start working at my part-time job because we need the extra money really bad right now. There's also alot of other problems going on that I would not like to go into detail because I would be writing all night. I know everyone has problems and some people's are alot worse than others. But with having the severe anxiety it's hard for me to handle certain day to day tasks without panicking. I panic over something that hasn't even happened or I think might happen. My Anxiety is so bad that it's beginning to affect my marriage life. I love my husband dearly and feel he is my soulmate but I'm afraid I'm pushing him away because of my anxiety problem. Not to mention I'm also a diagnosed Bipolar. Which does not help with the anxiety. I need a good psychiatrist that will put me on the right kind of medicine for me and the right dosage I need. I've been on a few anxiety medications that did not help at all like Klonopin and Ativan. If anyone knows of any good psychiatrist I would really appreciate their name and office name. I'm trying to get help to save my marriage and my life completely. And please serious answers only. I'm not just asking this to get medications to supposedly get high on. I don't do that. I' not into getting high off medicines and all that. I would just like some help.

I personally would advise seeking out a Psychologist instead.  It helps to be able to get to the root of a problem instead of throwing drugs at it.  I wish I had a name to give you, but I don't.  Just wanted to give you my bit of advise.  I have helped people through anxiety, and a few with bipolar, and know that in many cases a good diet, excercise, and having a trained psychologist can do more for you then any pharmacuticals can.  Just don't take this as a "don't take your meds" if you have a disorder that is sever enough that you present a danger to yourself or others.

And yes, Parkside is the last place you should go.  You might look around for some support groups.  These people not only would help you get through rough times, but would also have many more names to give you.

I also recommend finding a psychologist/therapist, someone licensed to give some sort of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy.  Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital has several psychiatrists and therapists qualified to help you.  You may have to go through several to find one that is a good fit with your personality.  A psychiatrist usually manages medication and does not really dole out specific advice.  They usually refer you to a therapist for that and both of them will work with you to find the best treatment plan for you.  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is wonderful for someone with severe anxiety disorder.

Or I do believe Family & Children's Services (F & CS) could be another great resource.

Most mental health experts seem to be in agreement that counseling therapy in tandem with medication is the best way to control anxiety and depressive-type disorders.

Best of luck and I hope you find relief.

tulsamommyof3,  Have you gotten the help you needed yet? I'm not just curious.  :(  I know someone who went through this same thing. I'm very aware how debilitating it is.

If you're working with F&CS on that matter I'm sure they can help with this one as well.

I know someone who is very happy with the folks at the OU Medical Center or whatever it's called. They've got a really good diagnostician who can get you on the correct drugs (Effexor is a great anti-anxiety med) and get you into the right kind of therapy for your problem.
