Well, the human species is an idiot for so many of the things they use wood for.

Like paper.  There are several much better plants to use, including ... yes, marijuana.  And papyrus.

Another reason we have our psychotic marijuana laws is thanks to William Randolph Hearst, who had massive holdings of forest products like those used to make paper.  So we would not use hemp.

Follow the money.  Forest.  Hearst.  Newspapers.
