The more I read about the former New Mexico governor, the more I'm intrigued.

(And I've never smoked or consumed pot, so the stoner jokes don't apply ... thanks.)

Several stories have been written about him in recent days. This is probably the best one:

Interesting.  He aligns pretty close to me (fiscally conservative, socially liberal).

I, like Conan, believe that gubmint has no place in dictating what is OK for me to do in the confines of my own home OR with my own body (Conan, correct me if I'm wrong, but I do remember you posting something similar).

I do, however, believe we're spending ourselves to death.  Did we need the stimulus?  Yes, probably more, but some of the programs should likely be scrutinized a little closer (smokers getting Blackberrys?).  Did we need regulation to reign in Wall Street?  Should have had it on Clinton's watch.

Too bad, you have no idea what you missed. I still think Bill Richardson was the right candidate in '08.

And yes Hoss, you are correct. We are prolly modern Whigs.

I've wondered that myself a few times. I think a lot of it is because I never hung around with stoners, plus I was a nonsmoker.

But, the more I think about it, I ultimately didn't want to be a tacit supporter of organized crime. I think if stoners would think more about their enabling ways, there wouldn't be these gigantic problems with drug cartels in Mexico and Central America.

A lot of people blame Mexico for not controlling the cartels in their country, but ignore Americans' insatiable appetite for drugs being the reason these cartels exist.

Yep without demand there is no market and the traffic would move in other directions. Its been a good while for me. The effects are less deleterious than alcohol, IMO.
