Can I get a double facepalm here?  The GOP is trotting out it's 21 page manifesto this morning called their "Pledge To America".  Where have we heard this before?  I suppose they decided to call it a pledge this time lest anyone want to sue them for breach of contract.

Yep, I'm a registered Republican, but I'm sick and tired of gimmicks and lip service.  I'm sick of self-aggrandizing career politicians thinking it's their right or destiny to have power and to try and exclude "outsiders" from the process.

I'm sure there are many points I will agree with in their little manifesto, but there's a trust gap considering the Contract For America was all but abandoned.

Discuss.

"Republicans on the campaign trail to retake Congress have a new roadmap.

The GOP will unveil its plan to fix the country Thursday, in a document titled "Pledge to America."

The 21-page manifesto gathers familiar talking points for Republicans, such as cutting taxes and slashing government spending.

"A number of people are very cynical about the reliability and the sincerity of either party," Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas), the head of the Republicans' House campaign committee, said.

"We've put things on a sheet of paper."

The pledge also calls for an end to President Obama's health care and economic stimulus plans.

"Regarding the policies of the current government, the governed do not consent," the pledge states. "An arrogant and out-of-touch government of self-appointed elites makes decisions, issues mandates and enacts laws without accepting or requesting the input of the many."

The only republicans left that met up with the term limits they put in the contract with America tried to get re-elected and break their promise.  The only thing that will help the Republicans is if they let the moderates have power back from the crazy morons in power now.

You mean Speaker Pelosi, Sen. Reid, & President Obama?  ;)

What I'm afraid the GOP is going to miss is the majority of Americans don't want more shrill partisanship.  If Boehner thinks he can act like Newt Gingrich as SOTH, he will only enjoy that post for two years.  I agree that moderates from both sides need to rise to the top.

Well Boehner helped write the first one...

Speaking about breaking promises.

In 1990, Boehner was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives

20 year career politician.  The contract with America said that they were going to impose 12 year term limits.  So I guess Boehner is going to keep trying to get elected so finally after 30 or 40 years he will finally get those 12 year term limits he obviously feels so strongly about.

The only reason why Pelosi and Reid are in a power position is because they are continually relected.  Not because the majority of the people in the US annointed them as speaker.

I view it more like the union mentality.  People are promoted on tenure not specific skill sets or merit.  Basically a complete imbecile can rise to the top of party politics if they manage to get re-elected long enough.
