That's funny, I could spend hours spending

Here's a puzzling one right off the bat.  Industrial Economics, Inc.  A $6.5mm a year company is awarded a contract for $20mm to study who knows what from the Deep Water Horizon oil spill.

Anyone care to figure out what they are being paid $20mm over the next year for?

If you read through their site they're a consultancy that specializes in providing administrative support and analytics to the feds.  Is it a stretch to think that a company of 95 people -- based in MA -- would require $20 mil in a year to measure and analyze the effects of the spill? For operational, personnel and equipment?

What's bothersome is awarding a non-competitive bid contract for relatively undefined consulting agreement.  I believe their specialty revolves around economic analysis.

The amount awarded $20mm to a company which lists annual sales as $6.5mm is also another red flag.

Couldn't be because a bunch of the principals went to school at Yale with Barry Soetoro, could it?

Or donated a fair amount to Barney Frank's re-election campaign or simply slept with Barney or one of his man-whores.

More people should take the time to read this material.  Soon you understand why we are operating in deficits year after year, administration after administration and realize Senator Coburn isn't kidding when he says we could cut $300 bln in spending and never miss it.

I'd love more information on what contract grants like that entail.  Something like a chiller replacement or buying vehicles is self-explainatory.  No bid consulting agreements with companies which don't meet any of the preferential purchasing programs is simply odd.  Then again, preferential (i.e. HubZone, women/minority owned, commerce incubators) programs have a way of driving up the cost of business for the government.  I do realize the government is the single largest check-writer in the United States and that means opportunities for businesses to operated and jobs to be created, but there's a whole lot we have no idea what we are getting for the money.
