Virginia Commonwealth University's resounding 94-76 victory over Purdue on Sunday night gives the city of Richmond two teams in the NCAA tournament's Sweet 16.

The Rams will join the University of Richmond on Friday at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

VCU is playing in the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history. UR made the Sweet 16 one other time, in 1988.

VCU fans gathered at Mulligan's Sports Grill on Main Street to savor the win. Robin Palm, 29, a VCU graduate student said, "The team not only won but won big. Nobody expected it. ... To do it in such dominating fashion was quite breathtaking," he said.

In the past 25 years, two teams from the same city have reached the Sweet 16 only four times.

UCLA and Southern California, both from Los Angeles, accomplished the feat twice, in 2001 and 2007. UCLA and Loyola Marymount reached the Sweet 16 in 1990.

Philadelphia was represented by Temple and Villanova in 1988.
