May 19th to the 22nd.

Performers announced.

Phil Brown and the Guitar Army are headlining.  Anybody heard Phil Brown around town?

Brown's "Jimi Project" CD, an inventive reworking of a dozen classic Hendrix compositions, was an instant critical success on its release in 2006, and is still a staple on progressive rock and satellite radio stations here and in Europe, as are several of Brown's other recent recordings. The "Jimi Project" album will be performed by Brown's Guitar Army in its entirety at Tulsa's Mayfest, along with several other Phil Brown gems and a surprise or two from what Brown describes as the "Great Classic Rock & Roll Songbook."

So its a person doing a Hendrix album of classics songs that needed reworking?

I have not heard his Jimi stuff, but Phil Brown was with Little Feat and has written songs and performed for everybody including Cher, Steve Perry, Pat Benatar, etc. He also has performed with Kool and the Gang.

I like the choice. It is an Arts Festival and this guy fits.

Sounds great.. Except the Thursday performer at 11:30 at Bartlett square has 40 times the facebook fans.  ( this isn't exactly a bad spot being the lunch crowd).  But still, I believe unless mayfest PROMOTES the smile out of the fact he is doing Hendrix covers nobody will go.

Mayfest doesn't have a big promotions budget, yet the Saturday Night acts seem to always draw pretty well. Weather is everything that time of year.

If facebook popularity was all that the festival cared about, it would turn into the state fair. It is an arts festival. More artsy, less fartsy.

Facebook users are most of the target audience.  (beer drinkers who pay for the festival).  The artist invites the fans to the event.  All their friends see it.  Etc etc.  It doesn't matter how nutty they are as long as they buy beer.

Facebook has existed for most of us for 3-5 years.  Mayfest is close to 40 years old.

Play the math, Charlie.

People don't go to Mayfest on Saturday night with all of the art exibitors closed down to do anything other than listen to the band.  Doesn't matter how old it is.  The band matters.
