Not for sure if anyone saw the story on Ch 6 last night at 10pm, but the Eastern Oklahoma Food bank is needing help.  They have a great backpack program that provides a bag of food that will help hungry kids make it through the weekend.  I have helped out in the past and they do a tremendous thing for our community.  It only takes 1-2hrs of your time, and any help (monetary or time) would be greatly appreciated.

I dont work for them, but compelled to pass the word along and maybe get some more volunteers for their great cause.  The second link below is where you can donate money if you want.

I didnt know if we could get enough people to commit to 2hrs a week and everyones schedule mesh where we could start our own tulsanow group (min of 8 people) but thought I would give it a try.  You more or less take a bag or two and walk around tables that are set up and put 1 of each item in the bag, tie it off and drop it in a box.

Check out the info below and if you want more info, please contact me.

I'm in and out of town quite a bit.  When do they need the help?  I'd love to get involved when I can make the time.

thanks to everyone who has/plans to donate.  I have been emailing back and forth the volunteer coordinator and she told me they have plenty of help for the kids program, but to check back in Aug when school starts back up.

She did mention they still need help in other areas as well, which I said I would gladly donate my time.

I plan on making a donation on Thur.

If you need any additional info, please PM me.

Thanks for all the help, its a great cause.

mon-fri 8am-12 and 1-3pm in the afternoons.  Also said some saturdays from 9am-1pm.  There are many areas to help out, not just sorting and repacking food, but also help picking fresh food, cutting up certain foods, and delivering as well.

Thank you guys/gals so much! I plan on giving a check tomorrow when I go in the afternoon.  Expecting a big bonus check from work today/tomorrow, so I am in the giving spirit even more so!

Also if anyone is interested in a food drive at work let me know.  They have a coordinator for that as well who will give you boxes, signs and will even come and pick up the food.  I am soliciting donations from various companies around town to donate a small gift card or something.  We will have a drawing for people that donated, and hopefully that will encourage them to donate even more.

No, Thank You TU. To me, writing a check is a lot easier than rolling up one's sleeves and getting after it.

I am a little over-volunteered at this time myself. I wish I could give time, but a little cash is all I can give myself today.

My grandmother worked a half day every week at the food bank here from her retirement until she was in her eighties. She often said it was among the most rewarding things she did in her life.

My cousin now works there as a chef as well.

It is truly a wonderful cause.

thanks everyone who donated! I planned on going in yesterday afternoon to volunteer, but found out my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer, so things are very chaotic to say the least.  I did manage to meet Kate, the volunteer coordinator, this morning.  I put in about 2.5hrs packing boxes of food for DHS to send/give out.  They didnt give me many specifics on who/where they were going other then to say DHS.  They needed 100, 25 lb boxes by the end of the day...I completed 22 in 2.5 hrs.

Again, if you cant donate, send over a few dollars, anything helps!!
