Some recent posts debated the consultant's efforts to make Tulsa more "cool." Since Austin was labled a "cool" place I wanted to see what effect that had on population. Using the census data and rounding to the nearest 1,000 I found the following for population (using country statistics):

1950 – Tulsa   252,000   Austin  161,000
1970 – Tulsa   402,000   Austin   296,000
1990 – Tulsa   503,000   Austin   576,000
2000 – Tulsa   563,000    Austin   812,000

Looks like "cool" trumps "good place to raise a family" any day.
