...speaking of photographs...

I usually have a difficult time finding good spots to photograph Tulsa from.  This latest photograph that was taken from Standpipe Hill got me thinking.

How about we use this thread to share your favorite locations to photograph from?  If you can link to a Google maps location that would be good, or even just a general idea or instructions.

I'm not talking about specific places, but places that give you great vantage points of the city and skyline or other notable places (such as views of the CityPlex towers, other architecture, etc).

Let's keep them restricted to those places accessible either on the ground, or not restricted if in highrises.

Thanks.

There are two good spots out northeast of the airport.  The first is on 129th just south of 46th Street (Port Road) where a small rise provides a good view of the horizon, with downtown slightly to the southwest. I think the tornado spotters use it because of the unrestricted view.

Another spot I like is at the Stone Canyon lake, about 3 miles east of Owasso on 76th St North.  I'd really like to get a telephoto shot of the city skyline from there at the winter solstice.  The sun should be setting directly behind the downtown area. There are a pair of charts that show the sun's azimuth and elevation for the year based on a ground location.  I can't remember where I found them, but if anyone wants a copy, please contact me. The charts make it easy to predict where the sun will rise or set so you can get that special shot.

May you live in interesting times.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day for photographing Tulsa. Hurricane Isaac sent some deep, dark, puffy clouds that made great contrast that defined the city.

One spot that impressed me yesterday morning, was sitting at the stop lights on 71st street by Tulsa Hills looking to the east. It really profiled ORU, and the medical buildings at 71st & Yale against the hills.

Another spot that was outstanding was on the middle of the 23rd street bridge in the late afternoon with the same clouds behind the downtown skyline. It was so impressive that runners were stopping to take it in.

My favorite, of course, is on the river below Chandler Park looking east to the skyline as the sun sets behind you. The refinery appears in front and to the right, birds are swirling, and the reflections are mesmerizing.

A close second to that is up on Chandler hill. You have to climb up on what looks like old bridge pillars. A little scary but worth it.

My porch.  My roof.   ;D
I tried the view from the Union Ave bridge off the Keystone Exp, decent but if you take Brady going uphill east, hop the barbed-wire fence, there's a good skyline view that includes the BOk Center.

I've got a skyline hanging over my mantel that I took from the parking garage of Hillcrest.

I also like the shot from across the river from Riverparks

I still remember the first time I saw the skyline from the 21st street bridge.  The way the buildings stack against each other adds so much depth.  I remember thinking something like "Oh my god!  I live there?!?"

This is the absolute best view I've found in a very long time.

And this is a great place for downtown shots, too.
Change never happened because people were happy with the status quo.

I don't remember the name of the park, but it's on 15th and Madison. According to Google, it's called Maple Park. I use to frequent this park back in the day. It has a great view of downtown from the South where Detroit splits off towards the BA, 15th, and 18th/21st streets. I can't find any pictures I took from there, but I remember they always turned out great. Here are a few I found:

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

It's pretty close to where I used to live (14th and Elgin when it existed..we moved because of the IDL).  I lived in a house that butted right up against the railroad that crosses 15th just west of it.

That is Maple Park. I think it actually has one silver maple tree.
