Conan, answer me this.  How can I enjoy someone's friendship while thinking that their entire world view is lacking?

I'm a liberal that grew up in Oklahoma so I guess I can stand just about anything.  I mean Oklahoma liberals are as tough as nails.

I do have a good memory and I recall Clinton openly supporting Bush to the point that it made me uncomfortable.  Don't you remember how much Daddy Bush appreciated Clinton for giving some support to Baby Bush?

I'm a lot more comfortable with Obama's recent remark that he has "keeping score."  Clinton was always hobbled by being a Southern Gentleman.  Folks from Chicago know how the game is really played.

Ooops, I forgot about former VP Gore when I was writing my earlier reply.

I don't think my world view is lacking at all.  I simply have low tolerance for double-standards, just ask my ex-wife  ;)

Personally, I think once a Presidential admin is done, the President and their VP need to keep their yappers shut on current policy and not sit around critiquing the current and subsequent admins.  So yes, Cheney should keep his mouth shut just as much as I believe Carter, Clinton, & Gore should have refrained from being critical of the Bush II administration.

(I would also have liked to see Greenspan gagged as well)

Double standard?  Hey, wait a second, this is way more interesting ...

Spain Looks To Prosecute Bush Officials

Court Will Consider Criminal Case Against Alberto Gonzales, Others For Torture

MADRID, March 28, 2009

(AP)  A Spanish court has agreed to consider opening a criminal case against six former Bush administration officials, including former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, over allegations they gave legal cover for torture at Guantanamo Bay, a lawyer in the case said Saturday.

Human rights lawyers brought the case before leading anti-terror judge Baltasar Garzon, who agreed to send it on to prosecutors to decide whether it had merit, Gonzalo Boye, one of the lawyers who brought the charges, told The Associated Press.

The ex-Bush officials are Gonzales; former undersecretary of defense for policy Douglas Feith; former Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff David Addington; Justice Department officials John Yoo and Jay S. Bybee; and Pentagon lawyer William Haynes.

E-mail requests for comment left with Yoo and with Feith through his Hudson Institute address, and a phone message left for Yoo, were not immediately returned.

Spanish law allows courts to reach beyond national borders in cases of torture or war crimes under a doctrine of universal justice, though the government has recently said it hopes to limit the scope of the legal process.

Garzon became famous for bringing charges against former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1998, and he and other Spanish judges have agreed to investigate alleged abuses everywhere from Tibet to Argentina's "dirty war," El Salvador and Rwanda.

Anyway, Some folks may remember my posts from 2007 and 2008 opining about parallels between Bush and Pinochet ... But the war crime charges are happening much sooner than I anticipated.

Funny, I never heard any complaining from Democrats over former Presidents Clinton and Carter openly criticizing Bush II.  They were never characterized as "pushing the envelope".  There had always been an un-spoken protocol that former Presidents did not publicly criticize sitting Presidents.

Gore and Clinton only spoke out at Democratic events which I think were tied to the election cycle.  I think when the elections heat up was when they would criticize.  I do not remember Clinton or Gore going to a TV interview bashing Bush within 3 months of the inauguration.  If you can find it let me know!

I could care less if it's three months into the admin or three years, what difference does it make?  There had been an unwritten protocol that past Presidents did not criticize sitting Presidents.  Find another admin prior to Bush II that happened.  I don't think it's proper for former leaders to sit around and snipe at the current admin- even if it's an election cycle.  Shame on Cheney as well.

Dick Cheney helps his cousin
His trashing the president reminds liberals that Obama isn't quite "Cheney-lite" on national security

http://www.salon.com/2013/02/11/dick_cheney_helps_his_cousin/

"The performance now of Barack Obama as he staffs up the national security team for the second term is dismal," Cheney said in comments to about 300 members of the Wyoming Republican Party reported by the Associated Press on Sunday.

"Frankly, what he has appointed are second-rate people," he said, for the positions of secretary of state, secretary of defense and CIA director — John Kerry, Chuck Hagel and John Brennan, to be precise.

There was a time in this country when this angry behavior would be considered treasonous.

Does anybody agree with Cheney on this?

I see Cheney is still playing the "pretend they did what we did and then condemn them for it" game. You'd think he'd have mellowed out some in these past four years.

Since when has "criticism" become "hatred"?  Where were you to claim "treason" when President Bush was criticized by former Presidents Carter and Clinton and former VP Gore?

Must only be hatred when a Republican does it, eh?
