The old British safari guns were 4 bores and possibly 2 bores. This represented the number of lead balls of that diameter that would comprise a pound. But I don't know what that would be in grains. Still, those were black powder weapons so they didn't have the pressure of modern propellants and therefore wouldn't have as much recoil.

Take a look at a punt gun sometime, too.
