QuoteOKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — U.S. Senator Tom Coburn says he plans to finish the current year in office and resign his seat nearly two years before his term is scheduled to end.

The 65-year-old Republican released a statement late Thursday saying he would give up his seat at the end of the current session of Congress, scheduled to end in January 2015. His term was scheduled to end in 2016.

Coburn recently announced that he was diagnosed with cancer, but said the decision was not about his health.

Fallin Sets Election to Fill Coburn's Senate Seat

QuoteOKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Gov. Mary Fallin says the special election to fill U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn's seat in the Senate will be held on the same dates as Oklahoma's primary and general elections in 2014.

Fallin said Friday the election dates will include a June 24 primary, a potential runoff election on Aug. 26, and a general election on Nov. 4.

Coburn already had said he wouldn't run after his term expired in 2016, but announced late Thursday that he planned to finish the current year in office and then step down.

The timing of the election is significant because any statewide elected officeholder or member of the U.S. House who runs for the seat will have to vacate their current post to become a candidate.

Is Fallin going to be falling all over herself to run? Who else?

Cats Cats Cats

I wish he would stick around.  As senators go a person who spends most of their time denying global warming exists is .0001% as effective as somebody who spends all their time trying to reduce spending.

Now now, that's not how Oklahoma works and you know it.
