Sounds pretty hush hush, but a nice new project. 270,000 sq. ft. isn't huge (Amazon is about 800,000 sq. ft.) but it's still nice to have another employer/business building up that area and theoretically making use of the airport.

ComeOnBenjals

That's great... will be curious to see who it is.

Sounds like another Amazon facility.

Most likely. Amazon is building about 3 separate facilities in major markets. They just did the first, the larger distribution center that's on the other side of 169. Usually they like to be closer but there may have just not been land they could buy right next door or they were able to get the land cheaper from the airport (or for free). They built a 200-250,000 sq. ft. ish sorting facility in OKC too, and a smaller 50,000 sq. ft. ish facility too that they called a delivery center. I can't remember what exactly they all do and can't find some of the old articles either.

A bunch of people in OKC made a big deal they got the additional facilities over Tulsa too. In reality Amazon is building the same facilities everywhere and they have to in order to keep their market share. Somehow cities are still falling over themselves to give them incentives when Amazon would have to build these regardless. They're building them near airports too so I'm sure they go into Tulsa or OKC and go we'll build this in the suburbs if you don't give us what we want, and in reality they wouldn't even if they city told them no because that screws with their operations to do that.

Amazon Distribution Center is the main warehouse for storing inventory

Amazon Delivery Center is where the deliver trucks are loaded and routed from

I worked for them for a year before being laid off.

I have heard they are a nightmare to work for, and not just in the warehouses. The tech people too.

Yeah, doesn't matter if you are the customer or the driver, their tech support sucks. I and 6 other drivers got laid off because "We're going a different direction with the delivery routes" was what we were told. The things all of us had in common was we were all over 50, we had critical thinking skills, we made well reasoned suggestions, and never missed work, no accidents, and ran circles around the younger drivers and never complained when we went to rescue another driver having problems finishing their routes.

Billion dollar company with some of the crappiest software and equipment. Just do your job, don't complain, don't ask questions.

So I saw on my news feed a story from KJRH that it is an Amazon distribution center, and it makes sense since Amazon is now leasing aircraft to move inventory around the country.

QuoteAmazon leases most of its cargo aircraft through Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings and Air Transport Services Group, but in January it purchased 11 used Boeing 767-300 jets from Delta and WestJet.

So will this facility give Tulsa same day delivery?

Wouldn't be surprised, it will probably happen within the next year or so. There has been some same day and overnight delivery going on here in Phoenix for about a year and a half. Not everything but some items I have ordered have been delivered within 12 hours of ordering. Since their system knows where I live, when I look for items even at 8 PM it will tell me that I can get it delivered before 8 AM the next morning for no extra charge for being a Prime member. Not everything but a lot of common items are getting to be that way.
