Time for Change

In a perfect world there would be no crime. In a perfect world there would be no suffering. In a perfect world everyone would die peacefully in their bed of old age. There would be no violence.

Unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world. We live in a time of turmoil. Our young have lost their way. Some have killed and commit murder in cold blood, in the open and the families are left grieving while these criminals get away.

Such is the case of our son, Joseph Adetula. He was killed over a year ago in a drive by shooting on the 4th of July, 2005. He was walking home from the convenience store when the passenger (or passengers) of a gold Cadillac shot him. With nine bullets in his upper torso, our son passed away.

The law is very clear. Without proof or evidence, the shooters are walking around free and happy while we still grieve over our loss. Who were these shooters? No one knows. No one can identify the car. There have been no witnesses found.

The police say they have done all they can at this time. The case cannot move forward til more information comes to light. Our search for answers still continues.

In the meantime, what happened to our son and how the authorities have handled his case has opened our eyes to the need for change in our community. We have discovered that Tulsa's crime rate is higher than that of New York City. How can that be? Why has the crime rate gone up 64% since 2002? What can be done?

One step we can take is to get people who are willing to move to make the necessary changes to clean up our home into positions of authority. We need people of good moral character. We need people who understand the meaning of family and truly value their own. We need people like Brett Swab.

Brett Swab is running for district attorney. He obtained his law degree from the University of Tulsa, College of Law. He was the prosecutor on the Brookside Rapist case, the QuickTrip killers and murderer Tim Stemple. He has secured 4 death sentences and over 36,000 total conviction years. He has also managed to get the support of the various police departments throughout the county

That isn't the reason though that we support Brett Swab. He isn't just a lawyer. He is a compassionate man who sees to the heart of the families who come to him for help. When we called his office for assistance in Joseph's case, he replied, "Mr. Adetula, Thank you for calling me. I will contact you tomorrow about your case. I am so sorry about your son. I am a father and I cannot imagine the pain you must be going through. I will get in touch with you." Simple words but words that we needed to hear and the action that we needed.

We pray that he does become the new district attorney on the 25th of July, 2006.

Tulsa needs people like Brett Swab. Our son needs people like Brett Swab if we are ever to get justice for Joseph.
