My family and I are planning on relocating to the Owasso area. I will be working in Coffeyville, KS and was wondering what type of commute that was. Originally we were looking at moving to Bartlesville, but weren't impressed with what they had to offer. A few questions that I have are obviously the commute and what to expect. Best areas to look for houses or some recommendations for builders. My wife and kids' concerns are insects, spiders, scorpions, snakes any problems and concerns with them? Weather is another concern of mine in regards to tornados and ice storms. We're from Minnesota so driving on unkind roads really isn't that big of an issue. What to expect from the area, attractions, kid friendly? I use to play soccer and would love to get involved again and was wondering if there were any adult leagues or coaching opportunities and what kind of time commitment this would entail. Also what is an average utility bill for gas, electric, refuse/recycling? Any insight to the area and my questions would be great. We need to make a decision by the end of January as to whether or not I accept the promotion. Thanks in advance.

I can't answer much for owasso utilities directly, but utilities as a whole are fairly low. Our electric rate is less than half that of larger cities like Dallas. Ranges vary based on what appliances are electric, usage, house size/composition, etc. My tulsa city utilities (water, sewer, trash) are about $40 a month.

There are many youth and some adult soccer leagues. There is currently no professional soccer although the idea pops up every few years.

Your commute is under 60miles on 169. Most likely under an hour, depending on when you're going. Oolagah flows pretty freely, so your only slowdown would be Nowata which should provide much of a hinderence either. Probably only about 15 minutes longer than your trip to bartlesville would've been.

If you live in a populated area and spray regularly, pests should not be an issue. Most everything you see is harmless anyway.

Ice storms are few and far between. Some years you go through the winter with little or nothing. Keep in mind that highways like 169 will not necessarily be sanded quickly and alternate routes or a sturdy vehicle may be required if we get a heavy winter.

Tornadoes can be a problem but while they are more common around here than other places, we're not fending them off one after the other like in  the movie twister.

Here is the city website for Owasso.

Water are rates are cheap...just over $15 for 3,000 gallons per month...trash rates are $11 a month for trash.

There is no curbside recycling, but I have a fine recycling drop-off center on Main street.

Very kid friendly...new schools and excellent sports programs.

Good soccer program...very nice sports park...here is the website...

Welcome to the area...
Power is nothing till you use it.

I wouldn't call working in Coffeyville a promotion.  Amazon isnt all that.

Sure, stepping on a snake, while tromping around in the yard barefoot, can be cause for concern: particulaly if it's the Okie Spider-Snake, they are the worst.

But what don't kill 'em makes for a good story later.
Good luck, jdb
