I recall a thread on this issue earlier. Here is a recent development from SCOTUS.

Did anyone see Scalia's speech this last week.  Very interesting thoughts on the Constitution.  I think it's about time someone started talking about the 10th Amendment again.

Good stuff, but then again, I'm a racist and revisionist.  What do I know?

The 10th is the forgotten (or ignored) amendment. Today in the U.S., it seems the notion of federalism has been replaced by a "it's Washington D.C.'s problem" mantra.

I think it is a good thing to make voters show IDs in order to vote,if only tulsa had something like that.

I agree. But with both major political parties opposed to state rights, that isn't likely to happen.

It's getting dark out there .....

"Twelve Arrested In Orange County Voter Fraud Scheme"

"People are thinking about elections, they're thinking about the Democratic process, and I think this is a very good time to get that awareness up that voter fraud is not going to be tolerated, not in this county and not in this state."

Indiana just recently (last year I think) passed a law requiring that all voters show a photo ID on Election Day.  I think it is a terrific idea.  I know some (mainly Democrats) disagree with the law, saying that it will only discourage some people from voting.  Well, if you do not have an ID you cannot drive, have a bank account, rent an apartment, get a job (in the vast majority of cases) etc, etc.  And I believe it is possible to obtain a state issued photo ID for free if you are low-income.  Mind you, you very well might have to wait in long lines at the BMV, but still it is not an economic hardship.

"Oh, but we should not let that stop you from voting.  You are clearly illegal, but please we want you to take part in our sacred right/privilege of democratically selecting our leaders."  Sarcasim intended, in case it was not obvious.

I certainly question my party's(Democratic) logic on this issue. I don't have a problem with showing an I.D. to vote as long as it's enforced at every precint and as long as their are provisional ballots available for those without the required  I.D. so no one who is legally eligible to vote is disenfranchised. I think it's an outrageous exaggeration to call this a poll tax, but I do understand the concerns about potential abuse.
