"This is turning into a big story. They're doing it across the country - Kansas, NH, and now PA. This is the Republican October Surprise, launched in November. It's to cheat, pretend that they are Democrats calling voters and then piss the voters off so much that they don't vote for the Democrats. The culprit in this race is the National Republican Congressional Committee, an organization that's used such scurrilous campaign tactics this season that it has been disavowed in some instances by the candidates it is supporting. In the past week alone, FCC records reflect $22,119 for anti-Murphy phone-bank expenses, said NRCC spokesman Ed Petru."

"Poll: Bush approval rating dips to 35 percent"

Looks like the people don't buy into that "it's Bush's economy" bs. I thinks the people prefer gridlock to letting the repugs run things further (into the ground).....

I'm a capitalist ... my portfolio is a dead giveaway of that.

I'm happy to give credit where credit's due. The economy has shown considerable resiliency during the energy-price shocks. So Bush's tax cuts helped.

Clinton had a good economy, too. I think if you look at economic expansion on their watches, both deserve credit (although Clinton's lasted a lot longer).

The big problem I have economically with Bush is his massive deficit spending. That's going to become a drag on the economy, and it'll only get worse without drastic action real soon.

That's the big contrast with Clinton; his tenure saw a surplus toward the end.

I haven't looked at the latest projections for FY 07 and FY 09, but they are narrowing it down.  Katrina additional military and national security spending haven't helped.  Bush picked a crappy time to cut taxes right before an expensive war on terror and a string of costly natural disasters.

Here is a pretty funny interpretation of the Bush debt from a liberal slant, I'm surprised AOX hadn't ferreted this one out yet:
