Remembering Dr. Strangelove in the movie thread, I was thinking of "They're stealing my essence".

Rember when they were putting flouride in our drinking water and the right wing fringe screamed it was a Commie conspiracy?

Don't hear that much any more. Do they still put flouride in our water? Did it turn out to be a good deal or a bad deal?

This is in Title 11C of the City of Tulsa Revised Ordinances...

I drank flouridated water all my life. As a kid was never allowed to drink carbonated drinks like sodas, and still don't. I have never had a cavity. [:D]

They say that dental decay and cavities have skyrocketed with the popularity of bottled water.  I never buy bottled water, I think it is one of the biggest rip-offs and wastes of money there is.  But I do have a PUR water filter on my kitchen faucet, which I use on rare occasions that Tulsa city water has taste and/or odor problems.  I haven't had to use it much in the past year or so because I haven't had any problems with bad smelling city water at my midtown Tulsa home (knock on wood.)  Does anyone know if home water filters like the PUR filter remove flouride from the water?

Thanks for the link.  The site doesn't say anything about flouride, but if it does filter out all the things they claim, I can't imagine it not removing flouride too.
I just use my PUR faucet filter in the kitchen mainly to refill the ice cube trays.  I don't have an icemaker in the fridge and using the filter for ice makes crystal-clear, presumably tasteless, pretty ice!  One PUR filter cartridge lasts me close to a full year, so I guess I don't have anything to be concerned about if it does remove flouride; most of the water I drink comes from the tap unfiltered.

Heard this discussed on late night talk-radio.

One caller mentioned that the truck which delivers the flouride to the water treatment facility is labeled "Poison." [:D]

Cavities can be filled, but I'm pretty sure replacement kidneys are a bit harder to come by.

On a more serious note locally, I wouldn't drink tap water from Tulsa anyway because there is too much chicken waste in it.

Rowdy

Oh boy, here come the chicken waste threads (ducking).

I hope that comment was made "tongue-in-cheek" because there is absolutely nothing wrong with Tulsa tap water.  Tulsa's water supply must be regularly tested and conform to all potable water standards. I have been drinking Tulsa tap water for 50 years.  If you think it is unhealthy to drink, you are just buying into the marketing and hype of the water filter/bottled water manufacturers and wasting your money.  The chicken waste issue makes the water more expensive to treat and may raise utility rates, but the end result out of your tap is cheap, and perfectly safe to drink.

Thanks okieinla.  I didn't look deeper into the website other than the initial link.  So PUR claims their filters do not remove flouride.  Thanks for the info.
