Fiesta Mart double dipping

I haven't had a chance to post this because of holiday stuff, but I wanted to warn anyone who shops at Fiesta Mart to keep an eye on their debit card or credit card statement. For the second time in as many months, my debit card was charged twice for the same amount when I purchased something inside the store.

I chalked it up to human error the first time, but now I am wondering.

The worst part of this whole thing is the attitude of the local office. Apparently, the folks at Fiesta Mart don't understand customer service or the art of the apology. Of course, I was a little angry this happened again, but when I called the office to report it and to ask for a refund, they offered nothing but excuses. The receptionist was rude as was the customer service person. She claimed that though the card was double charged, the extra charge was not on their books. I questioned that because the charge had only happened one day prior to our conversation. Unless she is also in charge of all the accounting, then how would she know? Excuses, excuses then a very sarcastic apology.

Personally, after the second incident, I will no longer shop at Fiesta Mart. The only reason I did was because it is a lot closer than QT. BTW, I have shopped at QT for 20 plus years and never has my card been charged twice.

I check my bank statement online frequently and when I mmentioned to the Fiesta Mart woman that many people may be double charged and not notice it, she blamed them for not checking their statement.

The whole thing left a really bad taste in my mouth.

When I returned to the store for my refund, with receipt and bank statement in hand, the girl at the store was downright rude. She said she "knew who I was," took the paperwork, spent 10 minutes making copies and faxing my paperwork over to the office. Again, no apology.

Overall, everyone involved was rude.

I am done with FM. If you shop there, take a close look at your bank statements.

I go in the one on 15th & Harvard only when I feel too lazy to drive to either of the QT's in the area.  I'll remember to use cash only.  Thanks for the warning Nellie.

I just checked my online statement to make sure the credit was posted. They debited it again. This is criminal.

Seriously. It IS criminal!! What if that happened when your account was really low?? An extra debit could cause a check to bounce and that's at least a $25 fee right there.

I have only been to Fiesta Mart a couple of times..always pay-at-the-pump, but I won't even do that ever again. This is outrageous.

I reported them to the BBB. I don't know if that will do anything but I felt it needed to be reported. I called them this morning to tell them I was charged again rather than credited and that I reported it to the BBB. Boy did their tune change. All of the sudden they were nice nice nice. They wanted to give me a gift card. I said no thanks. I will never shop their again.

60 minutes ran a story last night on ID and credit card theft, specifically they got into the theft of 100 mm records stolen from TJX company (Marshall's, TJ Maxx, etc.).

I'm thinking it's finally become safer to walk around with $2000 in your back pocket than a debit card or credit card.

Be sure to file disputes with your credit card company as well. They keep track of issues with merchant accounts, and Fiesta Mart will get charged back for everything, plus fees from the credit card company.

They will find the problem and fix it, quickly once they start getting hit with additional fees for overcharging customers.
