New way to encourage recycling...

Forbes magazine has a fascinating article about a new way to encourage recycling.

Basically, a company in NYC called RecycleBank is offering rewards for recycling.  That is, they get corporations like Home Depot and Starbucks to be sponsors, and then offer individuals the chance to earn reward points based on the amount of recycling they do.  The trucks that pick up the recyclables curbside have the technology to track how much each client is recycling.  The client gets to spend their points at Home Depot or Starbucks or whatever.  (Sort of like the current system of earning frequent flier points by using your credit card...)

Brilliant idea!  Here's the article if you want to read the whole thing:

I am in San Francisco right now in a meeting with National recycling officials and this is one of the agenda items.

I have asked the guys from Coca Cola, Time magazine and Dell if they would consider Tulsa.

I think it a long shot, but a chance all the same.

I think there is every reason that they should take Tulsa seriously: Tulsa is widely used as a test market by consumer goods marketers because it is pretty representative of middle America.  I can't think of a better place to find out if the iodea will catch on much more widely.  If Michael gets a chance to follow up with the big boys, he might mention this to them.  It's also a great way to challenge Tulsa to grow up too.
