I am in the market for a universal remote but am having problems because I cannot find one that has  all of the needed buttons for a PVR/DVR. Tivo has the goofy "thumbs up, thumbs down" buttons and cox has "A,B and C" buttons. I mainly need one to work with cox as I'm selling my tivo (if anyone wants on). I can't seem to find anything that would have buttons or the ability to map to "A, B and C."

Would your Tivo happen to have a lifetime subscription?? [:)]

Without knowing your remote budget...
Logitech's Harmony remotes are well received

Noodlez

Have you checked out the Logitech Harmony line up of remotes?

Nope, got in, got out after a year. It's a 40hr series two with add-on wireless usb adapter (no phone line required, plus transfer recordings to your pc)

The good harmony remotes are outside of my price range (don't really want to spend $100+)

Back in a simpler time, you could get a really good universal for $25-$50.

I really like the Sony Remote Commander.  Costs about $200, but well worth the price.  Has an LCD screen that you can program.  You can also program multiple commands, such as:  Turning on your AV receiver, changing it to the TV option, turning on your TV and turning on your cable set top box...all with one button.  Same with turning everything off.  The only poor spot - the owner's manual sucks.  But once you get the hang of it...
