I didn't spin, O'Reilly. I initially reacted to the information I had at the time (which was very little) and added to the conversation (which was already talking about accents and assimilation).

As more information about the speech came in, I realized that the "controversy" was hardly that.

When I finally saw the video, I didn't see it as mimicry. It's stating lyrics from a song that has certain rhythms. To me, it's no different from me putting in a pause when I quote "I can't get no ... satisfaction." Or "I got you ... under my skin." Or if you sing old Negro spirituals right out of the hymnbook. Each of these types of songs have certain cadences, and if you hear them a few times, it's hardwired into your brain that way. It sounds off if you stray from them.

If I sing "Freedom's Road," does that make me a minstrel singer? Of course not. I sing it because I like the song.

To accuse me of spinning is simply wrong. If anyone's spinning, you are. You're the one who calls Hillary a "carpetbagger" and obviously has an axe to grind. I've got no dog in this hunt. I don't support Hillary.

But if you're getting something wrong or being selective or exaggerating, then I'll react, no matter who it is. That's the way the free marketplace of ideas work.

RW, you are kidding with that last post, right? Listen to Hillary again or look at the "transcript" I provided. For someone who does not support Hillary you are doing one heck of a job covering for her.

Oh, well. You not used to someone who makes their own, independent judgments with the facts presented?

I remember hearing more of the speach.  This video puts it in context.

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/horsesmouth/2007/03/yet_another_win.php

There are many in the news media who are making it sound like she was talking that way the whole time.  Plus there is not a politician around who won't change a speach to make it fit the audience.   I remember taking speech classes in college. One of the most basic and first things you learn is "Know your audience and make your speech fit that audience".  One of the lessons was same topic different audiences, How would you change the speech to fit each of the different audiences listed? There is the "general audiences" type speech, then there are speeches tailored to specific audeinces. People arent going to be as receptive to you if you don't tailor your speech to their group.

Plus, again, she spoke with her usual voice most of the time, but when she was quoting this piece, she sounded like she was having fun to me and really revving the crowd lol.

To take this out of context and try to portray it as something else is more manipulative and disenginuous than what what some are saying she is doing.

The whole deal just gave the rabid righties something to talk about. Everyone knew what was going on with that part of her speech. Then Insannity and Mr. Oxycontin got a hold of it and turned into something that it obviously was not. Then the rest of the righties who listen to these morons jumped on the wagon without listening to any other part of the speech. Talk about kool aid drinkers...

This whole Hillary speech is, to borrow from Rwarn, pretty "feh" with me.

She's got plenty of time to self destruct.  Hillary is a smart woman, but her jealousy makes her do and say stupid things.

There's a lot of speculation that her campaign is behind the release of information about some of Obama's well-timed investments and there will be more daggers in the coming months.  Her quiet campaign of personal destruction is going to back-fire big-time.  I think Obama will mobilize the most black voters in American history since he is the first black American with a truly legit shot at the White House.  Hillary would struggle to get the nomination without them.

By the time it is all said and done, the black population will have the perception of Hillary being more racist than Bush.

Interesting theory and prediction, Conan.

And please notice that I have not dismissed them. [;)]

I really think we will see record voting numbers in urban areas heavily populated by blacks during the Democratic primaries.

Even if Obama stumbles early in the primaries, his campaign will stick it out.  Iowa and New Hampshire are pretty white-bread and I don't know how much appeal he will have there.  He should do well through the southern and northern states with large black populations.

Hey NSU: Here is that "rabid rightee" Don Imus and his show's take on it:

I must point out the lengths persons on this thread have gone to blame others for pointing out nothing but pure political pandering by Hillary Clinton.

And I need to point out the lengths of you making a mountain out of a molehill.

No one will remember this "issue" when the primary elections actually begin.

She was reading from a hymn by James Cleveland as it was written. She did a lousy job of trying to sound southern. Whats the big deal? So Imus and his crew mentioned it. Insannity has run it every night since she said it.

As for the political pandering, some people call it campaigning. ALL of them pander to get votes. Remember when GWB promised to introduce an ammendment banning gay marriage? Was that not pandering to the evangelicals?
