Megee enters race for State Senate Dist. 37

By Anna F. Brown 08/01/2007

With the filing period still months away, a longtime municipal servant has announced she will file on the republican ticket for Senate District 37.

Jan Megee will be a first-time candidate. Jan and Mike Megee live on W. 51st, almost to state highway 97 and have a Sand Springs address.
She said she feels the Senate District 37 needs "fine tuning." Jan has worked for the city of Tulsa for 26 years, the last nine years she has been aide to the District 2 city councilor who serves Southwest Tulsa. She was aide to Darla Hall and Chris Medlock. She is still working as a city council aide. "I do love my job which is basically helping people," she said. She announced her candidacy at Zarrow Regional Library, surrounded by friends and relatives Thursday at an ice cream social.

Randy Tankersley at the Tulsa County Election Board said the State Senate calendars won't come out until August or September. He estimated the state filing will be in May 2008 and the primary will be late July 2008.
The general election will be Nov. 4, 2008.
Senate District 37 is currently held by Democrat Nancy Riley. Riley said Friday that she also plans to file.

Jan Megee said as a child, her father was in construction, so the family moved a lot. She got good grades in school despite moving between Oklahoma, Texas and the west coast area of the U.S. She graduated from Webster High School in 1967.
Megee said her strategy is to meet as many people as she can by attending events in the Senate District in the coming months. She plans to knock on doors also. "I have a good work ethic and I have worked hard all my life," she said. "I have a strong morale base."

She and Mike have attended View Acres Baptist Church in Berryhill, but now attend Church on the Move. She and Mike have a grown son who lives in Coweta and a daughter who lives with her family in the Ft. Worth area. Mike Megee was a former Southwest Tulsa businessman and was an officer for the Southwest Tulsa Chamber of Commerce some years ago.

I really think she will be great if she wins. I have worked with her for years and she has always been professional and prepared.

The state senate is tied 24 to 24 so every race will be hotly contested. The incumbent, Nancy Riley, changed from republican to democrat after the last election, which makes this race one of the ones to watch in 2008.
Power is nothing till you use it.
