Another utility feels "stop the box" heat

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - AT&T's above-ground utility boxes aren't sitting well with one Tulsa resident.

Robin Henry says the boxes are an eyesore, and she's been distributing flyers and lobbying city officials to have them removed.

The telephone company recently installed a four-foot-tall box in the easement beside her home in the city's Gracemont neighborhood.

Henry -- who works for AT&T -- says she realizes the company has the right to use the easement, but wants the city to regulate the placement of utility boxes to minimize the aesthetic impact.

AT&T recently installed more than 100 above-ground boxes in Tulsa, with more being installed in Jenks, Oklahoma City, Moore, Norman and other areas.

AT&T spokesman Andy Morgan says most people don't notice them, and the company places them beside homes and not in front.

When I lived in BA, I personally hosted the neighborhood "Cox Box" in my backyard.  And it was ugly.  They would consistently disconnect my cable "on accident" "by mistake" when they worked on setting up other customers cable.  They would take the padlock off the box and leave it open with the door swinging in the wind.  When we moved to Tulsa I swore no more.  

Nothing against Cox so much, I know a lot of those  guys are independent contractors. So at least it's beside her house, not in the backyard.
