I use a large UHF antenna and, as a result, have difficulty receiving Channel 8, which still broadcasts its' HD on VHF.

Using only my primative indoor rabbit ears, I get 3 channel 8 digital signals:

8-1, the main high-def channel 8
8-2, the 24 hour weather broadcast
8-3, the standard definition channel 8 broadcast

I live midtown, 26th St. South & Yale.  With my Radio Shack converter box, I get the full high def channel 8 broadcasts on 8-1 when available, although my TV is not high def and the display is letterboxed.  I have had no problem receiving 2-6-8-11-19-23.  Analog 19 comes in as 6-2 digital on my TV.

I'm guessing HDTV won't be around that long anyhow. There is alot of new stuff up & coming down the pike. I heard that in 10 years time we'll have another TV system that is more in line with the rest of the world and there is even talk of "3-D" TV. Everything is changing so fast. Laser TV is coming out soon with clearer pictures than current Plasma TV's..  The DVD is already being pushed out by Blu-Ray and soon that will give way to those "Picture cards". This hi-tech stuff changes very fast.[B)]

I have a friend who basically gets all his shows, music videos, and movies via AppleTV.  Just downloads what he wants to see, and watches it when he wants to.

This, to me, seems like the future.

I looked at the boxes from Radio Shack but went instead with an RCA DTA800 from walmart that had stereo audio jacks (instead of just one mono output).  Was also $10 less.
