Not that the truth matters to the bear...

She said it on Channel 8,6,2 during the Press Conference announcing the move.

I heard it come out of her mouth. I'm sure there are other posters who heard the same thing.

Reducing downtown vacancy rates was recited by her as ONE of the reasons for the move of City Hall to the OTC.

Actually, over time, this will turn out to be one of the most bone-headed decisions our elected officials have ever made.

Even dumber than moving the jail 1/2 mile from the county courthouse....

They are physically dividing city government from the rest of the County and Federal Government Square at 3rd-5th and Denver.
INCLUDING, dividing city government physically from the Tulsa Police Building.

The county started fracturing of the downtown Goobermint nexus when they moved the jail 1/2 mile away from the County Courthouse.

Then, the U.S. Corp. of Engineers moved out to the suburbs, moving to east Tulsa.

Followed by the central Post Office moving to east Tulsa as well.

The end of One-Stop Goobermint Shopping......

Isn't reducing downtown vacancy rates just one of the benefits of this move? It certainly wasn't the motivation for the move.

I think it's a good thing. The new building says that Tulsa is prepared to move forward in the future, and image makes a difference when people come into town looking to invest.

City image may matter to some, but a state's tax burden, education infrastructure, transportation infrastructure, and trained work force are probably more important variables than how pretty is the local city hall building.

Reducing downtown vacancy rates is only a benefit to one constituency:

Downtown office building owners.

It certainly would not be a benefit of suburban office building owners.

They are COMPETITORS.

The local ruling oligarchy is heavily invested in downtown property holdings.

The move to OTC benefits them, as well as is a vanity move for Mayor Taylor.

Mayor Taylor found her current digs just too shabby.

And, a person motivated to own the 2nd most expensive house in Tulsa and who flies her own jet to Europe to shop says just a smidgeon about OSTENTATION.

The move will save money, even make millions of dollars for the city because of the rents from private companies of the extra space in the building. I know long term thinking and investing is a foreign notion to many though, so I can imagine how its hard for them to comprehend. The city and the mayor were recognized nationally through an award for the creativity and positive impacts this move will have for our city.

Those who think it is a luxury have only a fragment of a mind. Mans spirit grows hungry for art in the same way h

I bet the award was given by a member of the "local ruling oligarchy". [:P]

Wow! This is easy! I should make this the basis of more of my arguments...
