I am building a rose garden trellis thingey in my backyard and need 10 post holes dug. Someone told me dont use a fencing company cause they will charge you an arm and a leg. So if anyone knows of a "handyman" type person who could dig them it would be appreciated. One thing, there tends to be large sandstone rocks not far below the surface of my yard.

Also the next door neighbor kid who used to mow my yard has grown up and moved away so am looking for someone to regularly mow and trim the yard. Its a large yard and I usally pay 70 dollars to have it done. Any of you have a kid that wants to earn an extra buck...

Aaalso, while I am at it. I really want the old vinyl siding ripped off my house. If you know of someone who could do that and would give me an estimate it would be much appreciated.

Artist, have you looked underneath the siding to see what it's hiding yet?  You might wind up having some unintended expenses by stripping it off.

dude, how big is your yard?  $70?  Sounds like you overpay.

What prevents you from doing these things...don't say work, I work and I still mow my yard.

Its little less than an acre. But the grass seems to grow very quickly, part of the back yard has a bit of a slope. And frankly I am tired of doing it. If I want exercise I will ride my bike or go to the gym. I suck with weedeating I always seem to break the danged things and I dont care if its 70dollars as long as it gets done when it needs done. I can work for an hour in air conditioning painting and make that. I just want to enjoy the yard and do my other gardening stuff. I am self employed so many times work in the evenings and weekends and do volunteer stuff "TN Map" "Mayfest Mural" am still remodeling my house, like to travel, I tend to over extend myself and this is an easy luxury along with having my house cleaned that makes life a little less stressful and takes a few "chores" of the list.

And frankly I mowed the yard as a kid and most of my adult life and have never liked it and now I can afford to have someone else do it so dang it I will lol. My motto, live small but well. I chose to have a smaller less expensive house so I can enjoy living a bit more,,, and I dont enjoy mowing lol.

From every place I have looked it looks to be the same wood siding that similar houses in the neighborhood have. Looks to be in perfect condition. I suppose they just didnt want to paint or something. I dont mind painting,,, obviously and I cant stand that blah white color. I want to paint the house a rich, soft, gold tone. Plus the siding is starting to fall off in places and is brittle. A hail storm last year knocked holes in the back. Some places it has warped up from the sun. That siding may have had a lifetime guarantee, but the original owners I bought the house from were pretty old and for all I know may indeed not be alive anymore. Its got to go one way or another. It looks like crap.

I may start ripping it off section by section instead of mowing [:D]  Actually I take that back, I tried a couple spots and it really seems to be on there.

As for the post holes I found someone to do them for 25$ a hole, they are coming friday.

Artist, you gain serious props in my world for honesty.  "I'll pay someone to do it because I don't want to."  Best answer there is really.

I shop a few commercial tree service places.  you could probably find a better rate than $70 a pop and they tend to be more accountable than some kid (some kids do really well, others not so much).  I'm too cheap to do such things (did my own floor, fence [post holes and all, 40 holes I suppose - 3 feet deep], house painting inside and out, etc.) so I really don't have anyone I could suggest.

You might try calling some companies that post signs around different neighborhoods.  I know some people despise those signs but thats another thread.  I am sure if you call around you could get a reliable company for probably cheaper then 70 dollars.  We just bought our house along with a new honda lawn mower and stihl weed eater, so I can't recommend anything for ya except for calling a few local companies and they would be very willing to give you free estimates.

i've had punk kids offer to mow my yard for $40-50...I dunno if that is the going rate these days or not.

Are you saying the surface area of your yard is almost an acre, or your lot is almost an acre?  That makes a huge difference.

Conan71

Mowing my yard takes all of 7.5 minutes these days, so I don't even really break a sweat except on the most humid of days.  I spend more time keeping up with my pool, but that's something I enjoy.

I can understand where Artist is coming from.  When you are self-employed, especially when it's your skill someone is paying for, you get real good at justifying what things you are better off paying someone else to do.
